Dear THR:
Like the captioned question asks, which is the best .40sw among the guns listed in the poll and why? Please share your opinions.

Thank you

The 229 ss elite is hot. If I had the funds I would snap one up. Alas the g23 will do for me. Nothing wrong with that!

Voted G22 Gen4 as it is the only one of the listed guns with which I have any experience, and it has yet to miss a beat after about 1,200 rounds.

From what I have read and what others have told me, all of the listed options are similarly reliable. That might not be what you mean by "best," but that's what it means to me when applied to a .40cal pistol.

170 rounds downrange just today from my Glock Gen3 23. I voted the G22 but only because the G23 wasn't listed. I owned a G22 but my son has it now.

I have an FN in 9mm and absolutely love it, but my sig is my favorite for sure. For the money i like the value of an FN, but if money is not in the discussion give me the Sig P229

I'd even pick my standard p229 in 40....the Stainless would be the icing on the cake.

I like the P229. It handles the recoil very, very well. It is also very accurate.

I have only had direct expereince with the Wather P99, Glock, SIg and S&W M&P. I prefer the ergonomics and trigger of the Walther P99 and S&W M&P. I also would not carry a pistol with either an external hammer or safety. In terms of reliabilty I could not ascertain any differences between these four manufacturers product.

I voted for the Sig only because the XDm was not an option, I have shot several Springfields for years with remarkable results. No handgun has ever performed better in any caliber.

No vote here. I have a S&W M&P40, which is on the list, a Beretta 96, which is not on the list, and used to have a Springfield P9C, a POS and good that it is not on the list.

i have no knowledge of the others on the list so I cannot make a judgement.

I like the M&P40 and the Model 96.

The best for... what?

Concealability?

Shootability?

Is this going to be a range gun, HD gun, CCW gun, or duty gun?

Where's the option for "whichever one fits you the best" :p

But seriously, go hold/shoot as many as you can... A few of those guns I thought I "wanted" but when I got around to holding or shooting some of them, turns out I hated them.

The Walther P99 is the best 9mm out of that selection of guns. For the best .40, I'd have to go with the M&P or USP40 (if you don't mind the chunky ergos).

One poster asked about the XD40. I have one and I like it, alot. But I would choose the Sig over it. If not for the Sig, out of the list, I would choose the G22. I have one of them as well (Gen 2 LEO trade-in). I honestly believe that the G22 and the XD40 are equals. The Sig is on top.
