Isn't the baseball bat the weapon of choice for caving in skulls and breaking knee caps? It is going to be hard for the N.Y. Yankees to play with no bats but we have to ban them. Can't be too safe you know.

Won't they have to ban balls too? Some of those pitchers can hurl a mean fastball. My grandfather killed a man when he was pitching and hit the guy in the head with the ball. Grandpa had a contract with the Reds but after that he would never pick up a ball again. So they are going to ban balls I'm sure.

I am always amazed how when it comes to things called weapons, it is always the weapon's fault for the death, never the perp. yet when a drunk driver kills someone, they do not blame the car, the booze, and in most cases the bar who served him.
Soon, we will be like England where kitchen knives are strictly controlled, let alone guns.

We may have been the victim of some bad reporting here; I wrote to Sen. Avella to express my concern, and this was his response:
I have to admit, if this is correct, I don't have a problem with it; a machete used against someone as a weapon surely should be considered a 'deadly weapon', IMHO.

Machetes? I thought they were filet knives for sea bass!
Neither do I. I'm all for laws that punish people for doing bad things and if they use weapons to do those bad things their punishment SHOULD be worse. We gun owners have always supported common sense gun laws. I don't see any difference here. There's nothing wrong listing a machete in with other dangerous implements that should never be used to hurt humans EXCEPT in self defense of course.

Seems reasonable to the point I'm a little perplexed they're having to amend the law now to reflect something I'd have thought would be on the books since they had books.

In our Belgian law, we have a small statement about forbidden weapons.
Forbidden weapons are (among others) "any object not design as a weapon but deliberately used as a weapon", wich would include screwdrivers, hammers, machetes, rocks, cars etc..

I've traveled to every corner of NY, and it truly is a beautiful state with wonderful people (well, the upstate ones), but I thank God that I don't have to live there. This machete ban is utterly ridiculous, yet so patently obvious and predictable for NY.
I own three machetes, four large Bowies, and an unknown number of pocket knives. Good luck trying to take them from me...ever.

This is happening here too, not just Europe.
They say its for our own good. We can buy Monsanto seeds if we want to grow anything.
And just like Monsanto has done with Terminator seeds that 'expire' after harvest, you an expect that ammunition will be mandated for use that will have any or all of the the following criteria:
1) not be reloadable
2) will expire after a period of time
3) can be deactivated
4) must be frangible

Making poessession of a machete illegal is ridiculous. Many people use them on a regular basis for cutting outdoors.
I actually have little problem with this other than I would think any length restrictions would capture machetes. So, why bother listing them as a "dangerous weapon" or doing anything legislatively. Best to read the actual legislation however.

OMG Thermactor!!! That business of banning heirloom seeds is the worst thing I've ever seen. They actually want to control plant life! If there was ever any proof these people want to be god this is it. We used our own seeds to grow food you could never get from a seed company. We did the selecting of what was good and what wasn't. And we ate like kings. Better actually. We had the best tomatoes you ever tasted. And they want to ban that???? Europe has always been the home of extremism. Pretty much every crazy, wacky form of government has originated there it seems. This one makes the Nazis and the their super men look like a high school science project. You can't control life. You can't put a patent on it.
This world is cruising for a bruising is all I have to say. It can't go on like this. I see bloodshed on the horizon and lots of it. We can't let these people put a patent on life. They have already tried it with water in places. The British took over the only source of salt in India and held it for ransom. That's how tiny little England conquered the mass of humanity in India. All they had to control was that one thing and from there they could control everything. That's the existential threat this kind of law would create. It can't happen.
