Ever notice old movies and TV shows where bad guys empty the gun....then throw it at the good guy. Superman in the old TV series had bullets bouncing off his chest until the gun was thrown....then he'd duck to avoid getting hit.

Price of guns what they are....guess the bad guys can't afford to throw them away anymore.

I guess that's when it pays to have one of those guns from the sci-fi movies. The handguns with the giant blades attached to the light rail. Can;t remember the movie, but I remember the gun.

Pitch Black, CrudeGT! That Aussie guy has it when he's digging graves and gets eaten. Looks like a 1911 crossed with a P-38 crossed with a guillotine. I think there's one in Alien Resurrection, too.

As for the chucking my pistol at the bad guy when I'm outta rounds...screw that, you know how much this thing cost?!?! :D

Tom Sizemore beans a Nazi in "Saving Private Ryan," so maybe it's the good guys hurling pistols these days...it's only bad guys that want to KEEP their guns according to Hollywood, you know. ;)

I watched a fellow throw as hard as he could a new Kreighoff shotgun once. He was so upset at his shooting and scores he threw it past the 21 yd marker, into the area where boxes were burned, bounced off two 55 gal drums ( 4 drums used as "fences" to keep the chicken wire taut).

He was "too serious" about his shooting and scores, the fun, comaraderie, sportsmanship conduct was gone. We decided to not ban permanently, instead a 6 month probationary ban from club. Followed by probation, and involvement with help with new shooters. He ran the BBQ for awhile.

AA shooter, burned out and too serious. Gun was open and empty when he threw it. Unsportsmanship Conduct. New shooters and kids saw him do this - that was un called for.

We had him do new shooters intro, teaching, safety and "sportsmanship' lessons.

I was pissed because the new shooters and kids saw this. I retrieved the gun allright, and I showed it to the kids and went into a sportmanship spiel trying to undo the damage. One little girl got scared and was crying, shaking like a leaf and tears streaming...

I gave the gun to the owner's shooting pard and longtime friend ( who was shocked , surprised and ashamed) The gun had to go back to Kriegoff. He busted that beautiful custom wood he paid for. It was very expensive to get fixed. His wife was not very happy to be his wife of 25 yrs.

Safety is always a must - OUR conduct is a must as well.

I made damn sure the first person he apologized to was that little girl, and her Mom. I think he would have rather been shot himself than to make that apology.

What I never could understand is the B.G. with a fully loaded gun (usually a revolver back then) who runs away firing over his shoulder at an unarmed good guy!:scrutiny: Of course this would be the only time a movie gun actually runs out of bullets (except for Superman of course):neener: so he throws it which slows him down enough to get caught and get his clock cleaned.:what: :rolleyes:

SuperMan (George Reeves)....may have been "Faster than a Speeding Bullet", more "Powerful than a Locomotive" he couldn't stand to get hit by a handgun....I seem to remember he bent the barrels on a number bad guys weapons. Maybe he was an "Anti-gunner"...now that I think of it, the "Daily Planet" could have been a liberal newspaper...

I finally got smart and put a lanyard on my carry gun. That way when I throw it, I can then retrieve it and throw it again!:p

Why throw it? With a lanyard you can twirl it around like nunchakus and make Bruce Lee noises. It just might scare the bad guys away :p

Just like when they say"drop the gun"...I always cringe....I MAY place my gun on the ground,but I'm NOT going to drop it....:D

One more reason to carry steel instead of tupperware...

Sorry fellas, but if I didnt say it someone else would have.

Not tactically sound doctrine....

You should retain control of your weapon to use as a club

Then ...multiple impacts are possible:banghead:

So far my Desert Eagle and my chuks have been insulted in this thread. Y'all need sensitivity training. I think I'll throw a Glock at ya!

:D :D :p yeah yeahh............Rem, you hit on some memory type cords................I forgot or really did not notice that Superman took the shots to the chest then DUCKED when the BG throws the gun. Me as a little kid just watching the small B&W tv screen in this humongus cabinet.

Gotta go;

No, I'm pretty sure he goes for his gun but when he can't get it out of the holster, he throws his helmet, finally draws his pistol and then they both shoot each other. I remember him limping away with his gun in hand.

I think I will side with the people that plan to hang on to their gun so they can pistol whip people with it. That should be a whole lot more effective then chucking it.

:what::scrutiny: :what:

And some of us poor country folks just wish we had a Krieghoff to throw.

I've only seen one of these in the flesh, I can't imagine anything making me throw it. Thing of beauty.

I have yet to see sound tactics that justfy ever throwing your gun. Well, there was that one kamikaze rabbit and the SKS....
