Depends who you ask. I've trained under plenty of combat vets who think it works just fine. Have yet to meet one that doesn't think so actually.

The new Sig pistol is definitely an upgrade from the M9. The remaining 1911's in the USMC have been out of primary service for a while. My $ says MARSOC will continue to use the Glocks, since they are part of a Glock-using joint command.
Dude is teacupping the gun, safety off and has it close enough to hit himself in the face with the slide if he fired the weapon. Maybe it was taken spur of the moment while he was moving or something (although I doubt it), but it definitely seems like it would have made sense to use a picture showing something closer to competent gun handling.

The gas impingement Recoil system of the M4 and M16 was less reliable then the gas pushrod of the M27 plus the bolts of the M4 and M16 presented maintenance problems. The M27 alleviated rose issues and has a longer barrel allowing for greater muzzle velocity and therefore greater range and accuracy. The bolt of the M16/M4 design has presented problems from the day it was introduced to the military. The M27 rotating bolt is said to be more reliable under sustained fire. The Corps did intend to adopt a new cartridge with thE M27 but so far is still using 5.56 NATO. That could change in the future.

I did the same. 300 bucks with siglites. And I took to the gun very quick. Although I've always been a sig fan, I hated any sig without a hammer (same for HK and Beretta) . I still carry and use a Glock but I would be just fine with the 320. I did order a subcompact grip module for it to carry it too. Very comfortable guns and good triggers too.

I only have 2 minor things I don't like about the 320. I want a higher grip on the basic model, an issue fixed by the x frames and Wilsons frame.
And I don't like how tall the slide is, but that's just a me thing. The few if shot have been good shooters. I also still prefer to carry a Glock but an xCarry or xCompact would be just fine for me too.

+1. The 320 subcompact grip module on a larger frame is a winner. Sig 365 concealabilty with a full sight radius. I shoot it better than My G19 w 30k rounds thru it. CDNN has/had a subcompact grip, mag and holster package for $40. Definitely worth trying.

The guy in the pic with the M9 is a Navy Corpsman.
I’ve read most of the post but haven’t seen where anyone has pointed out that the Marine Corps actually went with the M18, not the M17.

We did.
The M17 is the full size pistol, comparable in size to a Glock 17. The M18 is the compact, similar in size to a Glock 19.
The military is purchasing some of both, not exactly sure who gets what.
I have the M17 and like it a lot. Will eventually buy the smaller M18. I've seen one available when I was short of cash. Went to buy it yesterday and it was gone. Don't know when they will be available again.

Some fellas still surprised that the M16 was adopted over 50 years ago and complain about it today. Similarly the M9 and are shocked to learn that things change even in the military and the Corp. The Marines don't carry 1911s anymore (well maybe a few somewhere do).
One fella is surprised that the U.S. did not sigh the Hague Accords of 1899 and 1907 regarding dum dum bullets, etc.

Hold an automatic pistol like that, and fire a round.
When the paramedics finish with you, come back and tell us about it.
That's why the navy doesn't want them back. Marines corrupted them.
