I've never had a conceal carry permit, I do carry but they are all full size revolvers or autos. I am now in a job situation where all my co workers carry due to todays events. I know that no one wants to have to use one but even in small towns you never know. I am leaning towards a Ruger LC9s or the new low priced Taurus G2 and G3. I've always been told if you do use one the police will take it for evidence and may be a while before you get it back, if you do get it back, so I dont want to spend a fortune. Any advice on these or any other suggestions.

I don't know if the cost to temporarily replace your carry weapon after a use should really be a consideration given the likelihood of use vs the cost of just about any good pistol. That being said I have a G2 and a G3 that have been 100% reliable. I wouldn't / don't hesitate to carry them.

For me, that wouldn't be a big factor in choosing a gun. But I have had a pistol confiscated by a TX Game Warden. I eventually negotiated a plea with the judge and it was returned 5 months later....the Warden wasn't happy about it either.

Why not just carry what you already have and are familiar with? Assuming you shoot them well.

And Im in no way trying to dissuade you from buying a new gun either if thats what you want. :)

Personally, Id look at something like a pair of Glock 17's, or something similar. But thats me. :)

You didn’t say what your other guns were so I can just guess what you’re used to carrying.

I’ve had great luck with the Glock 19. You could try a Glock 26 for a compact gun or a Glock 48 or 43X if you want something with a longer-thinner grip that is still a bit easier than the G-19 to conceal.

Stay safe.

It shouldn't matter if you never see it again if you're 6ft above ground.. What is your life and future earnings worth to your family?

If you cannot afford something better so be it. It is what it is..

If your cheaping out for some unrealistic scenario, that is an entirely different thing.

Check out a Ruger ec9.

Good gun, good factory support. Carry the seven round and a 9 round for reload and you'll be well set.

IMO best bet is to handle some of the pistols you are interested in and then rent the ones you like best for a test drive. While I do carry my Glock 19 fairly often for me the thin 9MM sub compacts are the way to go for all day concealed carry comfort and still have a very shootable pistol if you get one that fits you well and currently for me that is my Walther PPS. I would definitely check out the SIG P365/365XL and the Smith and Wesson Shield Plus line also.

IMHO don't worry about the cost of your carry gun. Your biggest concern if you ever had to use it would be potential large legal bills even if you are cleared. Remember a lawyer is attached to every round you would fire and another good reason to make sure you choose a carry pistol that you can become very proficient with.

Yes. Don't subscribe to this:

Bite the (figurative) bullet, save up and buy the best quality pistol you can afford without taking food off the table for your family. What are their lives worth?

Plenty of affordable options out there. I know a number of folks who own the newer Taurus pistols and I'm not hearing complaints. I owned a Ruger LC9. But over that pistol I'd scrounge up a few more dollars and go for one of the SIG P-365 series or the Springfield Armory Hellcat, arguably the two best sub-compact pistols out there now (well, at least the best-selling).

If you are looking for an ultra compact check out the Beretta BU9. Less than an inch thick and very easily concealable. $400 new msrp and you should be able to find one used for less than $300.

I still have the Ruger and the Glock. I traded away the Taurus only because it was so nearly identical to my G26.

Ruger LC9s pro - Are its descendants the E series? Nice little single stack.

Taurus G2C - Pretty nearly identical to my G26. The trigger is mushy.

Glock 43 - I prefer it to the Ruger. A used one is probably cheap now that double-stacks are all the rage.

This was $219 or $229 or something stupid like that NiB.
