what is your favorite do it all rifle

I got the Ruger American Ranch too, but in 5.56. I live on a farm in the Upper Midwest and think that the cartridge is adequate for anything I do. It's pretty flexible with the various bullet options. Suppressed, it's still pretty handy. If I was further North I'd probably prefer your Grendel or a similar rifle in .308.

This rifle would also work for me as an all rounder. Marlin 336SC with a 2x7. It's an old waffle top that was already drilled and tapped when I bought it. I should use it more.

I would have to say my good old Winchester 94 in 30/30.

I guess mine would be my Marlin 336c in 30/30 or me Enfield No1 Mk3*.

I really (really) love my M1A but I don't have reduced capacity mags for the D&R in Va.
When we retire it will be my 4x4 side pick for hogs!!

My personal "do it all" rifle is my M1 Garand. A little heavy but with iron sights and semi auto it can meet all objectives it can encounter. Defense, long-range, hunting, lots of rounds, quick draw with iron sights, etc, etc. Not saying that is the best do it all rifle but the best one of all the ones I personally own.

I can't name just one. They are like golf clubs, I keep several for a reason.

Well, seems to me that "all" would include defense against dangerous game. I love the 7x57, but...

So I'll put up my old .416 Rigby.


With standard loads, it does what it does.

I also worked up a 2700 fps load with the Barnes 300 TSX, which mimicked the trajectory of my pet .30-'06 load, was screamingly accurate, and legal for hunting in California. It also kicked like a mule, so I still have a bunch left over, but in a pinch...

And with a 350 grain cast bullet and enough powder for 1300 fps, you have a fine load for practice, plinking, and even pests and small-medium game.

Maybe better described as my "do nothing" rifle.....I really like my RAR in 7.62x39. It is light and handy and shoulders and points well. It will also shoot golf ball sized groups at 100yds with crappy ammo.
I have never drawn blood with this one.

If they said, "You have to step through this door and shoot something. Bring a rifle."

I would grab this one.

Yup. for most defensive needs or a property firearm in the southeast, I can do almost anything with one of the ARs. I like AKs, but over the last decade, the ARs we own, have become the go-to.

My favorite GP field rifle has been a Model 7 in 7mm-08, but the Howa Mini in 6.5 Grendel may give it a run for its money.

My 6mm arc ar-15 varmints to deer and target shooting even some long range stuff, but it's heavy so I'd like to get one of the Carbon Hawa minis I 6arc.

Hmmmm…. I’m thinking a bighorn model 90 in 460 s&w might be a necessity to answer this question
But closest I CURRENTLY own is my 308. I do love the ol classic 270win. But I don’t have a do it all. No such critter. Lol

My HK-91 I've had for 40-odd years.

It has never failed me, tho of recent a scope is necessary with my old vision.

Others say "it is so heavy"! My reply is I never noticed that, and I've humped a fair amount at that.
