This gets so old so fast, but I may have over-reacted.

You should have dropped him off in the ghetto, 10 miles away from home. He would probably have called you to ask for an M4.

ArfinGreebly, could you get me one of those $189.50 AR's?

Calculating the inflation, in 1965 $185.50 is the equivalent to $1190.41 today.

And to The Economist, I would have done the same thing.

Gosh that is too bad. You missed a chance to educate an anti.

You can only teach those who are willing to learn.

I think I would have told him, "Don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya."

He asked to get out. You pulled over to let him get out. At that point he had two options. He could (1) get out, or (2) he could have apologized, and asked to continue to ride with you.

He chose number 1. His choice, not yours.

Your a better man than I, because apparently you are still letting him stay in your house...

I fail to see where you overreacted. You did exactly what I would have done as well.

I have a pothead brother in CO. During one of my visits home, my folks neighbourhood was having a block party. Near the end of this party, I headed back to the house to answer nature's call. He had showed up at about this time, and was apparently going through the withdrawl of an eariler high. On and on he ranted about how it was BS that alcohol was legal, and pot was not. Well, this kid is the poster child as to why such substances need to be illegal.

During his little rant fest, he mentioned another country (The Netherlands, IIRC,) where drugs are legal. Well, not one being in the mood to listen to his verbal abuse, and in one of those rare moments that I manage to sieze such moments, I immediately replied that if that place was so much more to his liking, he was more than welcome to buy a one way ticket over there.

I guess he thought that I would be sympathetic to his narcistic attitude and views. His response to that was a bitter "Well THANK YOU for your support Brother!!"

They may be family, but that does NOT mean you have to put up with their crap.

The CA; liberal mind set and philosophy is to shock the target audience with a greatly exaggerated statement of their viewpoint, and then tone it down so as to give the impression that they are considerate, rational and moderate after all.

Respectfully, I believe you are giving them too much credit. As a Michigan transplant who has lived in Cali for 28 years, let me assure you that they really ARE that wacky. At least when it comes to guns.

As a californian, I am outraged. How can you possibly buy and AR...and I can't. California is a crazy, mixed up state, and I'll be moving away first chance I get.

I think you did just fine. It is sad that he has so little real knowledge of firearms that he has to equate an AR to something on a video game. As far as the quote above, not everyone in CA has this mindset. I just moved from there after being stationed in Mendocino County for 4 years. The DA there publicly stated that as far as he was concerned he wanted every eligible citizen in the county to apply for a CCW. Don't be too quick to pass judgement on Californians.

Correction: The M4 is not a modern M16. It is a carbine version of the M16.
Correction: You spelled Edjumicashun wrong.

Agreement: I would've done the same thing, but when he got home, I'd have the AR15 out next to you as you say "It's not so scary now, is it?" You know, get a conversation going.

BUT be sure that the AR15 is unloaded and tied down because we know how guns just start killing people by themselves whenever liberals see them.

[clapping]

You know what, people have the right not to like guns, and they have the right to tell you about it, but throwing a red faced tantrum and carrying on like they're in some sort of a conflict resolution excercise is bizarre and out of line. Carrying on as if you'd just told him that you'd eaten a baby for lunch is just....well, there's no need that any of us should tolerate that sort of treatment.

If we're ever to realized the goal of (re) normalizing gun ownership, we need to stop giving the opposite position a free pass, and stop accepting rejection of an armed citizenry as "just another valid and legitimate position among many", as if that position had equal moral weight with our own.

It does not carry equal weight. It is inferior in every way.

The paradigms are mutually exclusive. They cannot be co-equal. One must be dominant, and it must be ours.

Oh, the irony. Here's a guy who spends some amount of time playing video games (don't even get me started on THAT lifestyle), where people blow each other up for fun. But he's got heartburn over you owning a REAL weapon, despite knowing that you use it responsibly. At least you are out actually DOING something.

It is analogous to the Hollywood stars who come out against guns, all the while making movies in which they portray gun violence.

Instead of banning guns, maybe we should ban any portrayal of gun violence in movies and on TV. Then watch them kick and scream about the First Amendment, after they've spent all of their "adult" lives trashing The Second.

I mean, come on, you can't even show smoking on TV, but you can show someone getting whacked. That's absurd, if you think about it.

Sounds to me like you need to lay a good old fashioned big brother butt-whippin on him. And not because he doesn't like guns but because it sounds like he needs to "man up" a bit more if he is throwing temper tamptrums like a child. That's my .02.

Well at least he seems to have some fortitude. Unfortunately doesn't have the capacity to understand the difference between sport and assault but most important IMO doesn't have the ability to stomach other peoples rights. It's all about him and his rights. My experience is that family relationships has no boundries. I hope in the future as he matures he accepts the rights of others to live as they choose and your relationship with him gets better. My question is why did he visit? He most certainly knows what you are all about? My future purchases includes an AK and mostly I get shrugs in my family but no disapproving aurguments. If there were I would throw a temper tantrum.:neener:

Sounds like whatever "sickness" floats around San Fran is emotionally contagious, and he caught it.

Even family has limits. At a certain point you have to say, enough.

:D

Family - who needs them?

You should have had his bags waiting and sent him on his way.

No, you are not stuck with family.

Based on personal experience, and having vowed to never be in contact with certain siblings ever again for what they have done to my Mom, I must say that we need to be more strict and damanding of family and stop giving free rides. I have seen how family treats family, and frankly, my friends have never treated me as badly as family has.

This is really not a forgiveness thing either. Forgiveness does not relate to insisting that individuals, especially family, take responsibility for their actions. Deeds have consequences.

Your brother is a jerk, he should apologize. He offended you. For some insane reason, these liberals will not apply their own beliefs to others. They can justify their objective right and wrong in their lives but it does not apply to yours.

Truer than you may realize.

Right on.

As a big brother, you may feel like you have to make allowances for the child.

But he's NOT A CHILD.

We need adults who act like it. You would have done him, your family, and society at large no favors to give him adult priveleges in a consequence-free child world. He asked to get out, you let him do what he asked.

Again, refusing to let him out is arguably kidnapping. You did the right thing.

My dad came home from WW2 with a couple of pithy expressions. One of them was, "A bad ride beats a good walk." Guess your babybro never learned that lesson.

And one other thing- family can be fired. I found that out after having to dismiss about half my mom's siblings from our family after my grandmother died due to their unconscionable conduct (greedy vultures). Donald Trump has no copyright on the phrase "You're fired!" It works very well in a variety of situations. Tell this crybaby, "Come back when you grow up girl, you're still living in a paperdoll world."

Over- reacted? Only your babybro over- reacted in that situation. You have reason to question his sanity and his ability to deal rationally with any other curve life might throw him, after the performance he put on.

I don't think you did anything wrong. It's geat when I have a chance to educate an anti but it's not always feasable. Given the situation you were in I would have done the same thing. If someone has a diffrent viewpoint from my own I don't expect them to throw a tantrum, if they do then my patience wears thin real quick. I rather enjoy debating but when someone is behaving as irrational as your brother was I find it's always better to walk away, luckily it's your car so he gets to do the walking. :neener:

Its family so it shall pass..but it does seem hes got the cali attitude down pat. Personally I'd have kicked him out while driving tho.

i may debate the commie anti gunners in a public place or the internet but anyone who talks any kind of anti gun trash in my car or my home will get an ass whipping. not joking.
