Tell her you need more to protect her - you need at least two of every type you have in case one malfunctions and you need at least one firearm for the more common calibers. That way, if stores get low on ammo you'll still have a firearm can shoot whatever caliber they have left in stock.

I only have 2 firearms (I'm still mostly-kinda-sorta new to shooting) but I plan to acquire more in the future. You've got a nice collection going, you could just tell your wife "Aww honey, c'mon, I don't even have an AK-47." And then she'll give you that look that only wives can give, tip your hat, nod...and run.

It depends on how much money you have and what your other household needs are. If your broke and on a budget, you can get by with what you have.

If you still have discretionary income to invest in safety and security, then buy more. At least a AR15, 308 with detachable mag (FAL or equivalent), an AK variant, self defense shotgun, and a 1911 at a minimum.

Oh, and don't forget the Ammo. Buy it cheap and stack it deep!

Coming here and asking if you have too many guns is like going to a bar and asking the bartender if you have a drinking problem.

I must disagree with some.
I have a lot less guns than the OP, however I feel as though I have really all I need. I have guns that can be carried and easily concealed, I have powerful handguns, one of which would kill anything on this planet and I have rifles and fully-rifled 12 gauge sabot slug barrels, suitable for taking out just about anything.

Not only that, but I have a fair amount of ammo on hand for a rainy day, and I have reloading equipment and components so I can crank out more ammo if I wish. I don't shoot often, but when I do shoot, I make each shot count. Most of my shooting of late has been the vermin type, like taking out nuisance critters that are a bit too close to my house for my liking, mostly skunks.

I got to the point where I just said enough is ENOUGH and I really don't need anything else! I enjoy looking at guns and looking at OP's (Other-People's) guns, and I can leave it at looking, admiring it for what it is, then putting it back down, as I have no intention to buy it (them). I am finally at a point in my life where I am happy. I honestly do not want any more guns and I honestly do not want any more money. When we end up with many possessions, instead of us controlling THEM, they have a tendency to control US! When that happens, it is a good sign that it is time to take a look at what one has and decide to be happy with the collection, whatever it may be!

Lets see............ I have:

4 12 gauge shotguns, 3 pumps and 1 over/under
2 lever action 30-30's
1 bolt action 223
1 44 magnum revolver
1 44 special revolver
1 357 magnum revolver
3 45 auto's(2 of which are 1911's)
1 380 auto
8 9mm auto's
1 22 auto

nope, not enough......... must buy more

My dad got me a Benelli Ultralight with a 28" barrel and walnut stock for my sixteenth birthday. Moments later my grandpa shows up and hands me an ancient Ithaca lever action single shot .22lr. My dad looks at me and jokingly (all the while, serious, as well) says, "You can never have enough guns, son." I walk into the kitchen and my mom says to me, "I think that's enough guns for a little while."
Moral of the story is,... I dunno. Just thought it was funny.

The dilemma for 99% of us is the word NEED doesn't enter into the equation.
Now we are left with the age old gun ownership fact. Nobody actually knows when you have enough.

I have had a lot of guns but have sold most off and now just have a 6" s&w 686 and a 2.5" s&w 66. I plan only on getting 1-2 long guns, a shotgun and a j frame.

Of course that is what I "plan"

I have to agree, though. I doubt if I'll ever own more than six or seven guns, and I already know what most of them will be.

1) Duty-sized auto for duty/EDC
2) 12 gauge shotgun
3) .44 magnum revolver
4) AR-15 in .223
5) Bolt-action 308
6) .22 LR
and (a big) maybe...
7) Lever-action .30-30

That's it. Pretty much every gun I'll ever own. Now I just need to buy em. The thing is, even with this few guns, I can guarantee you right now that the only one I'd shoot more than 2-3 boxes of ammo per year would be my duty/EDC auto.

Wanting to buy a second old Russian MN 44 about three years ago, in order to have twins, I told my wife and maybe you can imagine the stunned look.
By the way, she studied voice, sings in a choir and had bought/sold lots of authentic Meissen objects years ago.

She looked like a South American tribesman had hit her in the back with a tranquilized dart from a cane blowpipe, like in the old Tarzan movies.
She stared speechless towards a blank wall, without any comprehension. No kidding here.

My response to her question ("Why do you...") was "these can be sold for about what I pay".

I think it is about time you get your gun's a nice apartment, buy more and visit them on the side so that your wife does not keep counting and getting upset at your other love intrests.
