I have the FDE w/SS slide like yours in the picture.
Great little gun with no issues through 700 rounds. The reset is long, being DAO, but being used to shooting revolvers, it's not an issue. Definitely combat accurate, and I like the fact it's 10+1 hammer-fired vs striker. I keep 124gr HST's...
I have a 1990 model 669CP, which has porting at the muzzle end. It's an excellent gun and very accurate. Taurus made some very nice revolvers in the late 80's, early 90's. Don't know anything about their new ones.
I think you will enjoy it very much!
Like you, I have an EG with a beautiful finish that I protect.
For ccw, I use an IJ-7018A with the replacement fixed sight, EG grips, and 21# spring since it's loaded with BB 115gr hardcast. It too has a nice finish, but I'm not so much concerned about its collector value. It rides owb in a Don...
I've happily used LPS 1 on all my guns for over 30 years. It removes carbon extremely well, removes moisture, leaves a dry greaseless film lubrication, and provides good protection against corrosion.
I see they now offer it in a wipe form also, called LPS 1 Weapon Wipes.
Left the Marlin 336 in 30-30 in the house this year because I was in the mood to try my Saiga 7.62x39 with cheapo red dot site.
Using Wolf 154gr SP, I dropped a nice little 4-pointer that weighed in at 138lbs after field dressing on the back of my farm.
He really tastes good! :)
LPS 3 is spec'd in at Boeing, Lockheed, McDonnel-Douglas and numerous other aviation firms. Fantastic for long term indoor storage, up to 3 years. It leaves a soft, waxy film.
LPS 2 for storage up to a year. It leaves an oily film.
LPS 1 for short term protection. Leaves a dry, greaseless...
Yup! These were one of Taurus's early gems, in my opinion.
I have the 6", stainless , compensated model that I bought 20 years ago,
and like yours, is tight as a drum, and scary accurate.
I'm not much of a Taurus fan, but I can't imagine parting with this gun. It
shoots every bit as good...
I have 11 handguns, 2 of which are 1911's. For just plain ol' good time fun, I enjoy my 625 the most.
Of course, I reload .45 so ammo cost isn't a big factor.
Good luck!
I also feel very strongly that a wadcutter with it's "cutting/crushing" and deep penetration would serve fine for self defense.
Their soft recoil is a big bonus.
My concern with target wadcutters is that the lead might be too soft and their sharp shoulders might not stay that way and "cut"...
I have the security-six in 2.75" for my woods gun and love it. Also have a 6" GP-100 for the range and leagues. Am now also looking for stainless speed-six for ccw/truck. I just like the slightly smaller dimensions of the "sixes'.
Jaenak, I live in Minnesota and am familiar with our bears and wolves, and the size of them. When strolling in the northern woods, I always have my Ruger Security-Six on my hip and feel very comfortable with it.
A larger bore or a rifle is always a comfort, but realistically I think you'll...
Thanks to everyone who has responded. Your input has
been fantastic and I appreciate it very much!
Last night my sister gave me all of Dad's medals, papers, and correspondence with mom. Hopefully, I'll learn more as I go through his things.
Thank you, again.

Hi all,
One thing I never asked my dad before he died years ago was if he was issued a sidearm when he served during WW2.
He was a Navigator on a B-25 for the Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater.
Does anyone know if they were issued a sidearm, and if so, what it was?
Thank you in...
gunhappy,
I was in the exact opposite position 2 weeks ago. I had the sp101
which I never shot much, and wanted the security-six.
Ended up trading straight up my 2.25" DAO sp101 for a very good condition 2.75" security-six. I much prefer the six with its adjustable sights, 6 shots, and...
