I always find this thread interesting because it shows the wide range of options, combinations, tastes, regulations, etc.

For the third year in a row I fielded a different gun for deer season. I was tired of worrying so much about scratching up or otherwise hurting my nice rifles so I bought a 1965 Remington 760 in 30-06 90% condition from a pawn shop. Perfect field gun.

8 point and a doe

Remington 760 30-06
150 Grain Federal Premium Sierra factory loads.

What did you use?

Remington ADL. 270 loaded with Winchester 130 gr. power points. Leupold 3x9x40 rifleman scope. This was a borrowed ranch rifle on an out of state hunt. There were 15 like it. Mine was #12.... Literally. It was written on the stock.
3 doe fell to #12..... Quite a rifle!

I'm 63 yrs old and this year...for the 40th year...I'm hunting with my Win. mod 94 in .30-30. My dad gave it to me in "66. For the season opener I got a nice little 8 pointer. Checked in @132#. I was pleased.

This was on my grandfather's farm, now owned by my dad, with the rifle he gave me, shooting my reloads. One shot and he didn't move one foot...he just sat down and fell over.

My load: Sierra 170 gr. power jacket over 29 gr. of IMR 4064.(max. is 30.5). Certainly not a heavy load.

I think that is one of the coolest hunting stories I've ever read. In a world full of marketing, and deer hunting gimmicks...one man uses a 40 year old lever action that was give to him by his father to hunt and kill deer. Simple, effective, and has a family touch that many can appreciate.

Agreed, good story Hardtarget. Thanks for sharing.

I'll be using a Remington Model 700ADL in 243 with 95gr Winchester Ballistic Silvertips.

Dolph92, Hardtarget, gspn

Same rifle I've used for the last10+ years. Remington LSS model 7 in 7mm-08. A 20 & a 50 yard track, and everything else dropped in it's tracks.

Dolph92, if you have time I want to know more. I'm seriously considering this as a build as the perfect beginner rifle with adjustable stock for kids and the recoil sensitive in my family(shoulder issues).
Hardtarget, great story and tradition.
Gpsn, yes it is, thanks for the entertainment in your sig line. That's hilarious!

Remington 700 BDL, chambered in .240 Weatherby, loaded with 100 NP's...

Krieghoff Semper, chambered in 8x57jrs, loaded with 200 NP's...

Weatherby Vanguard .30-06

165 grain SGK BTHP
50 grains of RL15

So far I've fired two rounds and killed a doe and a bobcat.
Still two weeks left plus a three day hunt after Christmas, so hopefully the tally will increase.

A new-to-me FN SPR in 7mm-08. Took a nice doe last weekend with it. A well-placed shot (139gr Hornady Interlock BTSP over RL17) dropped her 3ft from where she stood. Good stuff.

I'm using a Tikka T3 Lite in .270 Winchester.
I'm shooting a 130gr Nosler Accubond that I hand loaded myself it leaves the barrel at 3019fps.

I actually shot my first deer with it Saturday. I was impressed with the bullet performance. I have a thread started about it called "It Finally Happened"

Same as last year, .530" round ball.

I don't worry about scratching "nice" guns while using them. I worry about not having enough time/opportunity to use them all.

My 7 pointer was taken opening day this year with my '75 iron sighted 336 in 30-30.

Starting next week it'll be an old .50cal Lyman GPR flintlock.

Ruger M77 Hawkeye .30-06, loaded with over-the-counter 150 gr. Remington Core-lokt. The rifle likes that round and it gets the job done every time I do my part.

Might take the M96 6.5x55 out later in the season.

Marlin 1894 in .44 magnum shooting a handload (240 gr. JHP over 23.5 gr. of W296).

Buck was a good sized 11-pointer taken my second time out. Shot ahead of left shoulder at base of neck, the bullet angled aft and lodged inside the right shoulder. A couple hundred yards of trailing in heavy brush was required, but the blood loss was so heavy, the trail was easy to follow even without snow cover.

My hunting area has traditionally been shotgun/muzzleloader/handgun and just this year went to rifle on a 'trial' basis. Normally I hunt with a ML and shots are 70 yards or less. The Marlin did NOT put this deer down like the MLs normally do.

Had a .308 ready to go for this year's hunt, but the proximity of houses to my hunting area had me dialing things back to the .44 mag. 1894.

Ruger Gunsite Scout in .308 loaded with Remington 180gr Core-Lokt. At 125 yards it made a real mess of the heart/lungs as it passed through from just behind the shoulder on the near side and and ahead of the shoulder on the far side.

Home put together 7mm08 based on savage 223 action with new bolt head and bull barrel. Sierra 120 grain over Varget. Eight point buck, first deer of my life, Fell on the spot never moved again. Liver and lung destroyed. Four-point buck, lung only, made it 25 or 30 yards.

I'm hoping for one with my scoped Super Blackhawk .44 mag. I carry my '94 30-30 to a few stands where a longer shot might happen.

Left the Marlin 336 in 30-30 in the house this year because I was in the mood to try my Saiga 7.62x39 with cheapo red dot site.

Using Wolf 154gr SP, I dropped a nice little 4-pointer that weighed in at 138lbs after field dressing on the back of my farm.

He really tastes good! :)

Me=Savage 10 Predator in .260 rem using hand loaded 123gr AMAX 200yds broadside good 3in exit 197lb buck went 35yds

Stepson=Home built AR15 18in MK12 .223/5.56 barrel using hand loaded 75gr Hornady BTHP 85yds yearling doe went 75yds no blood due to angle of shot and no exit. He hit a hard quartering away shot just in front of back leg bullet traveled through guts into liver and lung resting in the offside shoulder just under the hide.

I used my Remington 700 BDL 30.06 that I got when I was 14 years old. I used Federal ammo that shoots well in it.
Mule deer in Eastern Washington 4x3.
Mule deer in Wyoming 5x5
Pronghorn in Wyoming.

Parker-Hale 7mm Rem Mag given to me by my dad. Winchester 150 gr. Power Points, Fixed 4 power Weaver scope. Nice heavy 5x5 Muley Buck, DRT @ 225 yds.

-2011 M70 Featherweight 3o-o6

So far, I have taken two eight point whitetails this season with her. A buddy's eleven-year-old son used it successfully on a nice six pointer last Fri.
