10 mm a worthwhile buy?

i know this is an old thread ( im good for rekickstarting them) but i have to chime in

the 10MM is a devistating round, and has actually been used on several occasions to bring down large brown bears in alaska and north america. ive killed several deer with a 10MM auto.

also, while its not advertised or advised, i regularly shoot 40 S&W out of my glock 20C and omega without an issue. still very accurate. i use the 40 s&w to plink and the 10mm to hunt with, or for woods defense. great round.

point me towards the info on brown bear kills
utilizing the 10mm. I often carry a Glock M20
when out and about, but had not heard of any
actual use for bears. Thanks

Very true... but I could never understand this problem. Even my 5'2" 105 lb wife shoots my G20 with ease. Despite her tiny hands and petite frame, she said that it is much easier to fire than my S&W 637 J-Frame... and I agree. I never understood why the 10mm got the reputation for too much recoil. If my wallet permitted it, I could shoot that thing all day long.

10mm and defense from brown bears have nothing to do with each other. But, that's part of the problem with Internet chat on the 10mm.

If someone posts something about the devastating whatever of the 10mm, replace "10mm" with ".357 Mag". If it still sticks, it may be a reasonable statement.

But. I'm sure in fifty years people will still be talking about cracked frames and geosynchronous satellites downed with a 10mm.

Biggest problem, in my opinion, is the exaggerations impact the adoption of the round.

I have a Delta Elite and a Smith 610.
There both stock guns. Anyone who says the recoil is no problem in a semi auto gun is not shooting full power 10mm rounds. It is way harder to control than a 40sw or 45acp in the semi auto. the 6" barreled 610 is way more controllable with the same loads. I used to load 180 grain bullets at 1250 fps for the 610 for shooting bowling pins at 25'. They did a good job. the 40sw didn't have enough power to do the job.
Put a comp on a semi auto 10mm and its a whole different ball game. The muzzle will hardly rise.
The 610 revolvers are also still made.

10mm is a great round

I have a Glock 20 10mm and it's a great gun for a great round. I carry the glock 20 regulary, despite its huge frame. I feel comfortable with the defensive capabilities of the 10mm round over a 9mm or other smaller round. I have shot the round clean through old junk cars and other thick solids, which does mean you have to watch for over penetration, but has the stopping power to knock someone down with 1 round. The only downside that I have found with the 10mm is the cost of the round. I am going to start reloading soon, in hopes of solving that problem. Another great thing about the glock 20 in 10mm is the availability of conversion barrels. I have a KKM 10mm->40 s&w conversion barrel that I can drop in and use with the mags that come with the G20 (No misfeeds yet!). I use that for IDPA/IPSC where the lower cost and recoil of the 40 s&w really counts.

It makes no sense that smith makes a 10mm revolver but not an auto. Why would you buy a 10mm revolver when you can buy a .41mag and not have thos goofy clips and get a round that is even more versitale?? its just plain stupid in my book.

My dad's 10mm Glock is the only Glock I've ever liked or giving any thought to purchasing. The performace of a 10mm is very impressive.

Not when you already own a 10mm semi. Have common rounds does have some perks.

A witness elite match from EAA in 10mm for 500-560 bucks isn't bad at all, but the manual says they're not rated for +P ammo. They're all steel and very hefty (I own one in .45) and that will help with recoil a lot.

Smith and Wesson still makes the Model 610 revolver.
6 shots and rounds are moon clipped. I have a 6" but it's made in a 4". There were also some 3" and maybe some 2" barreled 610's made at one time. If your like most you probably want a semi auto though.
The 10mm is real nice in the 610's.
Very accurate and reliable. packs more punch than a 45acp.

I can't begin to explain the intensity of the warm fuzzy I feel as I watch my Dillon 550B drop a nice, pretty 10mm cartridge into the bin every few seconds.
