10 mm a worthwhile buy?

I'd give....

I'd give someone's left nu... for a 10mm Omega.
I had the chance to buy one in almost NIB condition and passed it up because
I bought something else that day. I figured it would still be at the show on
Sunday when I could come back with more money. I was wrong :banghead:

The 10mm is an underrated caliber with a lot of potential if you reload.

If you find something you want, get it.

I got infected by the 10 MM bug some time ago. After a lifetime of shooting M1911's in .45 ACP, I got persuaded to try a Delta Elite. That did it, I was a convert. Now, I have 3 DE's and two S&W Model 1006's and they are my carry pieces, my range pieces and one of the DE's is my Barbeque Gun (stag grips, don't you know). My .45's languish in the safe, only coming out once or twice a year. Then, the 10 MM got me back into reloading after twenty years.

I need a meeting; "my name is George and I'm a Ten addict."

Try it, you'll like it.

In my eyes the 10mm Dan Wesson commander sized Patriot is just about perfect. I like it and it's cousin. Cousin? Yes, I have a KKM 10mm barrel I use in my Glock 21. The G21 started my love affair with the 10mm. Regards, Richard:D

At $450 (price I've seen quoted), the Tanfoglio/Witness Elite Match has a helluva lot of things going for it. See?

Several people have good feedback on it, including someone writing a "mini-review" for THR. If you google, you can get some word on it.

Of course a 10 mm is worthwhile, but why limit yourself to semi-autos? :)

OK, OK....the top one isn't exactly a 10, it's a .40 S&W, but it may soon get reamed out to 10 mm :neener:

Very happy with my G29

I used to carry my S&W 640-1 on business trips. It's a nearly
optimal concealment weapon. But, there were times when I could
add a bit of pleasure by hiking in nearby forests on extended
trips. The 640 did not feel comforting in the woods.

After considering several options, I bought a Glock 29.

This photo shows the guns are close in size, but, the G29 gives me
more rounds plus the ability to move to heavier bullets in
the woods. I load Double Tap's 180gr GD in town and DT's 215 gr
WFNGC hardcast in the woods.

I've shot both loads and there was no recoil drama. I carry it in
a Comp-Tac CTAC and it conceals quite well.

No matter what one think about Glocks or 10mm ammo, this is a great
combination.

Guys, I like 10mm too, but some of you seem to have let it take on religious icon status.

That ignores the whole versatility of the 10mm.
Yes, it can be a huge .40 S&W all the way up to a .357 with more bullets. :)

The same cannot be said for the .44 in rapid fire for the average person,
Especially ironic since what killed the 10mm in law enforcement was because it was seen as too hard to handle for an average person.

nor is it an auto with high capacity.
And most of the guns on this thread are 1911s and Smiths, which last time I looked, didn't really push the old capacity envelope.

Come on guys, lighten up. If somebody doesn't like your pet, it isn't a big deal. Personally I think 10mm is cool. I had a 1026, and I've got a used 1066 in the counter at work, that I've been wanting to take home for myself.

I've been thinking for a while about joining the Cult of the 10mm, ideally via a widebody 1911 such as is available here, but I keep coming back to just using my existing .45ACP reloading setup and going with a .45 Super caliber instead.

You got that right! Almost everything we focus on takes obsessive overtones, whether M1911's, Glock's, Pre-War S&W wheelguns, etc. But think how boring it would be at the range if everybody showed up with the same thing (come to think of it, that's what happened in the Army, and it was boring). :D

I recently acquired two S&W 10mms, a 1006 with an action job, trigger job and night sites by Wayne Novak and a NIB 1076 which is an FBI issue with the TEV prefix. The 1006 is sweet, between the work Novak did and the heavy weight it's like shooting a 9mm and talk about smooth, that guy knows his way around a S&W semi-auto! Haven't shot the 1076 yet but intend to. Feel bad since it's still a brand new gun and the FBI ones bring a premium but it won't do me no good taking up room in my safe!! Found both at an estate sale and the price was unbelieveable under 1k for both!! Just shows you have to keep your eyes open for deals at all times. Only thing I had to do to both so far is install new Wolff 20 lb recoil springs. Now I just have to wait for my Double Tap order to get here along with my holsters from Alessi, Garrity and Kramer.

How hard is it to find a Colt Delta Elite? I've liked the Delta Elite since i first saw one at the NRA firearms musem. But i've never found one in a store.

And I have never seen one in a store either. But, in the recent past, I have found five of them (bought three) — two very nearly NIB (so close you couldn't tell) and one that was a rescue project (having been abused in its former homes) that was so cheap I couldn't pass it up. Gun shows, AuctionArms, private sales. They're out there.

Well, since the .357 may be the most versatile cartridge, it is no insult to make the comparison. Just look at DoubleTap's offerings alone: they range from 160 grain hollowpoints to 230 grain hardcast. By my standards, that is a pretty versatile caliber. And Glock makes a 15-round 10mm that gives you one hell of a lot of firepower for a handgun.

Look @ my signature. Before I discovered that website I used to think that the 10mm and the .40 were the same thing. That's because when I was younger I remember reading in a gun mag, about how amazing and powerful the 10mm was, although at 10 years old with no gun experience I had no idea. Then all of a sudden it was no longer written about. So when I bought a Glock 22 in .40 a few years back, I thought it was a "10mm". I was thinking that maybe they changed the name to sound better or something.

When I discovered DoubleTap ammo's website, a whole new world was opened up. I finally realized what the true 10mm was capable of, and I haven't been the same since. I bought my Glock 20 a few months back, and I will never, ever, ever part with it, unless I have to fund a brand new one :D . Is the 10mm worthwhile, of course!!! I don't reload and if 10mm becomes unavailable then guess what, I will learn how to ;) !!!

I've shot 10mm's, and was impressed. Recoil is quite controllable. However, the cartridge is not as readily available as .45 or 9mm and the guns chambered for it are few, large, and heavy.

As a duel purpose hunting/self-defense pistol, it would be great, but there are much better SD choices, and the 10mm can't begin to compete with the revolver rounds for hunting.

However, I'd still like to own one, and probably would choose the Witness.

I bought mine years ago, not really knowing what I was getting. It won't be leaving my possession anytime soon.

See I just cannot agree with that. Unless maybe you are talking about the new S&W 500 or 460? Look at www.doubletapammo.com and see the plethora of hunting rounds they make for the 10mm. It is amazing. He even makes a load that is a ball and hollowpoint, says the ball hit's about an inch or so higher than the hollow point. I don't know if it would actually be an effective round but Double Tap sure does come up with some interesting rounds.:neener:

That's still about the same as hot .357, and doesn't compete with the .44's, .454, .460, .500 and the other premier revolver big game hunting rounds. I'd be fine with a 10 for our deer sized game, but not the real big stuff.
