OK after an hour on the phone to the Hartford Cabelas and the Ft Worth Cabelas and finally asking to talk to the store manager I have an 1858 Sheriffs model on the way to my local store. I cannot believe Cabelas operates in such a poor manner now. I was transfered from customer service to the hunting dept and back and forth and to the operator and finally the store manager who is a guy who could get things done. Maybe.

So if and when the gun actually arrives I will post a picture or two. And I did sell my other 1858.

So thanks Articap for the heads up.

That's wonderful news even though it was difficult to arrange.
The main advantage of buying it in person is that you're able to inspect it before walking out of the store with it.
That should allow you to reject it if you notice a serious defect.
One guy who picked out a lemon in person was able to bring it back and pick out another one which is not typically done.
Some vendors don't allow returns at all which is not ideal especially when buying by mail order.
And it may be partly why Cabela's doesn't ship BP guns directly to customers anymore, so they don't return it simply due to buyer's remorse.
    Good luck!

Did they tell you that there is some paperwork to sign when you pick it up?

The make a copy of your DL and make you feel that you are on a watch or no fly list...

A fellow on a forum was interested in my custom bullet designs and offered to do the work in exchange for some bullets.

I’ve read of, and been told that a Brownell’s hand reamer works, but I’ve also read that even these can have problems. It’s why I haven’t bought a reamer. I’d like for it to be closer to the 0.4525” bore.

Thats not a problem. I have filled out so much gun paperwork lately that another form or two won't make any difference.

I hate it when they make me sign the "have you stopped beating your wife" form. With the two little boxes to check either "yes" or "no". Now that's humiliating.

What if its the other way around and the wifes the one beating you? Surely they should atleast put that question to be fair.

If the wife beats you, she'll convince them that it was your fault. ;) And that you deserved it.

Anyway to get back on topic I hope my gun makes it to Cabelas by next week. Cabelas used to be super fast on shipping and they always got their orders correct the first time. I hope its the same with this deal. I am pumped about getting this gun. I have looked all summer for one but none were ever in stock.

Cabelas called today. They should have my new 1858 Sheriffs model in the Ft Worth Tx store sometime next week. Maybe. They took my credit card info and are shipping the gun from Hartford Connecticut in the early part of next week. And they waved the shipping charge on the gun. The manager saw to that.

Thanks to Articap for the heads up on his local store having these in stock.:thumbup::thumbup:

Dang, when I bought my Pietta '58 Sheriff about 8 years ago shipping took about 4 days from their warehouse. Cabella's sure has gone downhill.

I have one of the almost historically correct smaller framed 5 1\2' .36cal 1858. It is a joy to handle, more Colt like. Doesn't feel clunky like the full framed ones. I have a .38 conversion cylinder for it so I can shoot it in both worlds. Not a .44 but one sweet revolver that I will never sell.

I wish they still made the smaller framed 36.

Just wanted to ask does the 1858 44 use #10 caps or #11? I have never owned any #10 caps and used the #11s on the 1858 I had long ago. I have both CCI and Remington caps on hand but they are all #11s.

Remington #10's fit the Pietta factory nipples like a glove.
But #11's will also work and stay on if they're gently squeezed.

There are ways to resize #11 caps so they will fit tighter, which can be tedious.
    Here's one way.--->>> https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/caps-coming-off-pietta-1858-remington-44.788565/#post-10038031

Another way is to use wire cutters with a specific sized hole drilled into the handle which can be used to gently squeeze the middle of the cap a tiny bit.--->>> https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/anyone-having-a-hard-time-finding-caps.869596/#post-11527191

Someone made a custom sizing die by simply drilling a precise hole in a steel block, which allows the cap to be resized by pushing it through.

Thanks Arcticap. That’s what I like about this forum. I am not an expert at anything but I learn something new nearly every time I come here. I may buy new Ampco nipples. Can I get nipples that are sized for #11 caps?

IMHO you would be much better served buying the Slixshot after market nipples for use with Remington #10, #11 and CCI #11.
Read what TheOutlawKid has to say about them.--->>> https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/remington-revolving-carbine.853212/#post-11169843

Track of the Wolf also sells nipples intended for only the CCI #11's but not as highly recommended for use with all of the different caps.

Just try not to buy any CCI #10 caps.
Here's outfits that sells the Slixshot.

I wouldn't mind having a smaller frame version of the Remington NMN but for now I'm quite happy and satisfied with the overall build quality and finish of my Pietta NMN.

arciticap, thanks for the jedediah-starr link. I just bought the CC frame, checkered grip one. I've been looking for that model for quite some time now. I also ordered a holster for it. Now the wait. If I could just sell a 12" steel frame one and a 12" brass frame one. The brass one hasn't been shot, the steel one maybe 12 rounds through it.

Very nice! That one also has a fluted cylinder.
Jedediah Starr must really stock up when they order guns so they won't sell out for a while.
