.30 Super Carry review

The author mentioned how Vista is expending resources making this new cartridge while we're out here with barely any of the existing cartridges available, and at ridiculous prices. I think that's the more important issue. Seems like Vista either doesn't know what it's like out here, or doesn't care. And to claim the current demand is just a blip so no need to tool up for the long run; well, it's been at least two years of a blip with no end in sight to the new demand.

I’m not buying one. Maybe if all I had were 380s and I didn’t want 9mm? Doesn’t make much sense. The thought of a new cartridge right now deserves an eye roll emoji.

I highly doubt Vista is expending too many resources on this. They have tremendous capacity since they control most of the domestic ammo industry. If they dedicate a line to making .30SC it’s going to cut into their production of .32acp or 7mm Mauser, not their production of the 9mm and 5.56. And whether the timing is optimal or not, apparently this project has been delayed a couple of years due to Covid. If they wait for a perfect time that might be another few years, if ever?

The 30SC is interesting but I'll wait for other brands to come out with pistols chambered in it.

Here is the Hickock45 video comparing the 380, 30SC, and 9mm Shield EZ pistols.

"Let me guess he liked it, just like he like's everything."

He doesn't like the EZ in general, because the grip safety doesn't fit his XXL hands well.

At first he thought the 30sc and 9mm felt exactly the same, but by the end he decided that the 30sc had a tiny bit more recoil. (He said the 380 had significantly less recoil than either.)

He liked the idea of the same performance as a 9mm, but holds two more rounds.

Right, the cartridge was designed and patent applied for in the pre-covid era of plentiful ammunition and components.
I guess they figured they would just go ahead and bring it to market in spite of all.

The "review" linked by the OP is an example of an unfortunate trend by "influencers" and even paying customers, the "unboxing report" and the "tabletop review." There are many write-ups on guns without the formality of actually shooting them.
Come on people, I don't care that you have a nice new gun that you will not shoot until two months from next Thursday. Call back when you can say that it actually works. Or not, as also seems unfortunately common these days of backorders.

He does NOT say the 30 SC has more recoil than the 9mm. He says the 30 SC recoil feels a little snappier than the 9mm.

This is consistent with the notion that lighter bullets, which are generally faster than heavier bullets, feel a little snappier because they have to accelerate faster to reach their speed than heavier bullets. The 30 SC was a 100 grain bullet and the 9mm was a 124 grain bullet. The 100 grain 30 SC is rated for 1250 fps, and the 124 grain 9mm is rated for ~1150 fps.

Also the 30 SC EZ weighs 21.6 oz and the 9mm EZ weighs 23.2 oz.

Wasn't there a fella here touting a hypothetical cartridge he called the '.32 KT' or something like that? Wonder if it wasn't a 'feeler' looking for shooter's input before putting this new round out.

That said, if some maker wants to recreate the 96 Mauser Broomhandle, this rounds sounds like a perfect chambering for it hinthintnudgenudgesaynomore...

Many people who are not "feelers" have wanted to discuss the viability of a .30/.32./8mm cartridge more powerful than the .32 ACP, especially since such rounds, like the 8mm Roth-Styer, were available over 100 years ago.

Saw about 7 boxes of ammo yesterday at Academy for 30sc. Just as you would expect about 3 boxes were opened so someone could hold a round to inspect. I normally hate that practice. I must say I had to inspect a round of an opened box to make sure they were real.

I think I'd only be interested if Sig would make a 30SC barrel/conversion kit for the 365 assuming that's even possible.

It might require a new slide. The 30 SC rim is narrow and might not work in a 9mm/.380 breech face. A 30 SC is barely caught by the extractor on my .380, to the point it might fail to extract.

And to add, the 30 SC breech face is narrow and will not fit a .380 round.

My local academy has one S&W shield I believe. Not buying one yet. Will wait a year or so.
