45ACP Recoil Overrated?

I've been looking for a nice app... haven't found one. Most are either geared to airsoft (for some reason) or are for use with proprietary hardware.

If you have a good one in mind... I'm all ears. :)

If you have an android I have had decent success with Splits. Sometimes you have to mess with the sliders to get all the shots to count, but it’s pretty easy and it does store and log your runs.

Not available on iPhone apparently though.

Hello Y'all!
I saw an old thread talking about recoil differences in 185 and 230 grain 45acp ammo and thought I would start a new discussion on a similar topic. Basically I have a Springfield Mil-Spec 1911 in the Lord's caliber 45ACP and I have shot 230gr+p ammo out of it with barely any recoil. It shoots like a decently loaded 9mm Glock 17 IMHO. So what my point is, is why some people seem to think that 45ACP is a monster cartridge that will destroy your wrists and others like myself, think it's a dang good cartridge (can't beat a 230gr hunk of lead at 950fps) for self defense and has moderate recoil.
I actually have to agree with you. The last time I shot some .45 ACP, out of a full-sized 1911, it had recoil but wasn't monstrous. It was manageable.

Recoil is all perception .
The 22lr shooter thinks a 9mm is artillery while the 500 magnum shooter thinks 45acp is a kitten. Depends on what you're used to. Strength seems to play very little in to it.

I'm a recoil junky, I like hard kicking guns and I don't think I'm damaging my hands or wrists although I've been told I'll detach a retina and five myself nerve damage. I call bs generally. The only variation is improper techniques, shoot a 44 magnum wrong and you'll get a face full but the 120# woman shooting the same gun can rip them off with minimal discomfort and no bodily harm.

I like 45acp a lot, I've never considered it to have much recoil. Heavily loaded cartridges can be fired comfortably if someone practices and works their way up to it. I shoot a lot of 454 casull, this cartridge has recoil disproportionate to its performance , it can be vicious but can be handled if you know what you're doing.

Recoil can take a toll on shooters hands and wrists for some shooters who have shot for years when they're shooting 20, 30, 40 thousand rounds per year. This can happen for people when they initially decide they want to be a great shooter and begin the work to reach that level. Some shooters, John Taffin for example, shot lots of full house loads for many years and wish they had backed off a bit and are paying for it now.

More shooters now do more dry fire drills then shooters did in decades past and probably don't shoot as many live rounds as shooters used to do.

I agree.

I have gotten used to 45 ACP from a full size 1911. To me, the recoil is not objectionable.

I do not care for 38 Special +P from a 2" J-frame but I can manage it well. I just get more hits with a lower power round.

Even my 460 XVR, while the recoil is stout, it is quite manageable even though my hands amd wrists are not as strong as they used to be. I get good bullet on target with it but Im not worried about rapid follow up shots. Take the time and get the gun on target before pulling the trigger and make the shot count.

On the other hand, my wife barely accepts the recoil of a micro 380ACP or 38 Special in her 4" S&W Model 586.
