9mm AK: the akx-9k

At $1600 I hope they didn't bother to make more than about a dozen. If they'll cut that price in half and make it in 45acp, I'm all over it. But for $1600 I can some really nice guns! That's just stupid. IMO

I will say, I loved in the video where he explains he can't shoulder the gun (pistol verson) with the brace on it, then he almost shoulders it, which is perfectly legal. Shows just how ridiculously stupid the ATF is. I had never thought of it but straped to your arm and 2" from you shoulder is fine I guess.

I was excited until I saw pricetag. No thanks until they cut the price to 1/2, maybe even 1/3. Kinda the same reason I don't have a coonan, a double rifle, or a drilling.

Yeah, too expensive. It'd be cool to have a civilian Bizon, though. That's a 9x18 and 9x19 version of the AK. Direct blowback, and supports both stick and helical magazines.

I love the concept. But I can get 7.62x39 ammo at walmart for $5.50/20. As long as that is the case, even with cheaper ammo, it'd take a long, long time for the cheaper ammo to make up the additional cost. Heck maybe Im looking at it wrong - Its a high quality AK pattern that happens to be chambered in 9mm, not a 9mm platform intended for saving money. Its good at that I guess.

If they could cut the price in half, I'd be a lot more interested...

I've thought about the chance of 3d printing a bizon mag

If only Hi-Point didn't make their carbines so damned ugly :(
yes! I think there is a real market for a range toy 9mm carbine that doesn't look horrible and doesn't cost $1K+
(yes, I know there are a few. the nano, the cx4, the sub2k) but where did the camp carbine go? the pc9? why are all the 9mm AR's and AK's so blasted expensive! sig, do you really expect to sell many mpx's for $1800? 9mm AUG's, stupid pricey. bah! I want affordable toys.

Vastly over-priced.

I'm still waiting for a hi-quality affordable 9mm carbine that's not a Hi-Point.

Puzzled how designers think this will sell at this price!

Assuming an AK in 762 is $1000 less, and assuming the cost difference in 9mm vs. 762 is 10 cents cheaper... a person would need to shoot 10,000 rounds to merely break even on that purchase - if bought for the lower priced pistol ammo....

Might be other arguments for it, but I personally can see no reason to buy it unless it were priced LESS than a AK in 762 or 545.

a lot of weight and bulk and complexity just for something that fired 9mm, give me a sterling instead.. or even an uzi

+1

If you look at the Bizon or the Vityaz their actions are completely different, they're both straight blowbacks and much more compact. I don't get the point of this one, especially not at that price.

Wow! What are people thinking? All the ergonomic and weight downsides of the AK with no price reduction offset...they can keep it!

I'll put up with AK ergos and weight for $550 vs an $850 AR, but not with the price advantage reversed...

The semi-auto 9x19 Tabvor and 9x19 AKM are equally useless. Neither is worth asking prices.

This thread has become the typical THR thread whenever the subject of a pistol caliber carbine pops up; it almost makes me wonder if the replies aren't regurgitated on purpose. Typically, when these offerings get announced, everyone wants the unique, cool toys, but 99% of the peanut gallery are too stingy to pony up for them. Everyone seems to be looking for an exotic $600 PCC, and some even decry the price and even the *usefulness* of a PCC.

All the while, a large number of members drive around in gas-guzzling, high maintenance, $35k trucks whose beds have never seen a full load, nor have the tires traversed though anything other than asphalt. "It's too expensive! What's the use!"

Some people choose to drive $35k+ vehicles that they have no real use for. They might do it for status, or it might be their true passion, even if the design envelope is never approached. Some people like to go gambling and throw away more money in a month that others make in an entire year. Some folks are regulars at their local tavern and have an eternally living tab. Some folks have boats; Bust Out Another Thousand. Some of us have only one vice, and it's the shooting sports.

Frankly, I think that innovation like this is cool as hell. We are truly living in the Golden Age of the *evil* rifle. There is definitely a market for this. That market is NOT the guy whose collection is not already squared away. That market is NOT the guy who is considering buying a WASR-10. That market is NOT the guy who saved his shekels for a year in order to buy a Hi-Point. That market might be the guy who can only shoot pistol calibers at his local indoor range. That market just might be the guy who wants to SBR it and add a can for ultra-quiet subsonic trigger time. That market just might be the guy who is a die-hard AK enthusiast and is hell-bent on owning every iteration imaginable.

In my opinion, the real deal-breaker here is the lack of widely available parts. This is especially important for those of us who dabble in the NFA game, as often we are married to these guns and ditching them is not an option. As an owner of an MP5 SBR, this thing isn't for me. I'd much rather be married to a weapons system whose parts are widely available with various levels of quality (and price-points) to choose from. If it weren't for my MP5, I'd have grabbed the 9mm kit for my AUG, and for the same reasons.

Sustainability
is the real issue here.
