Anyone have experience with the cartridge? I noticed Fleet Farm had a special on casings for them with their reloading supplies. I was considering rechambering my PPS43 to 9x23mm WIN from 7.62x25mm Tok with a barrel swap.

How does this cartridge compare ballistically to other popular loads? How will it behave out of a 10" SMG barrel?

I've read it kicks in a handgun the same as a .45, but has way more kinetic energy with more magazine capacity, same as standard 9x19mm. It's a wonder more people are not using this as a self-defense load, sounds like it would work great as one.

Hello stressed, I have shot and reloaded for the 9X23 Winchester some. I realize that the 7.62X25 is a high pressure cartridge, but the 9X23 Win. is a really high pressure cartridge as hangun calibers go, approx. 55000 psi. I suspect that is higher than the 7.62X25 by a considerable margin. The recoil impulse is also going to be significantly higher, even if the firearm you mentioned can handle the pressure. For instance a 125 grain bullet at the 9X23's 1450 fps = the recoil impulse of an 85 grain projectile at ~2100+ fps. I don't know if the PPS43 has a strong locking system or is a straight blowback type action, but if blowback type, I wouldn't go there as far as the 9X23 Win. is concerned. l think the 9X23 Win. is an excellent cartridge and wish it had been more successful commercially. But, it's closest rival, the .38 Super, has been around for a very long time, and many shooters just didn't see much advantage in the 9x23 Win., me included at the time...

Yes, I suspect that something like the factory Winchester Silvertip and Cor-Bon 9X23 loads would be excellent for self defense. But, as I mentioned earlier the .38 Super was solidly established long before the 9x23 Win.,and most folks thought the Super was hot enough for competition or SD, so......

BTW, the recoil of the 9X23 Win., in equal weight guns of the same type, 1911s for example, is less than the recoil of standard .45ACP 230 grain ball.
