A Walmart addiction

I can get 100 Federal 12G field/skeet shells for about $16.00. WM also seasonally offers 12G "High-velocity game loads" (I forget the manufacturer) for about $3.00/25. They are "high velocity" (and cheap) because each shell has only 7/8 oz. of shot. They are good for introductory shooting due to low recoil.
The WM in my area also has 5 rounds of 12G 00B for $3.84.
I'm not an addict, I can quit anytime I want! No, really!

"I must confess... My Name is Jonathan [Bainx] and I have an addiction to buying ammo everytime I take one step into a Walmart store"

Jonathan...........you read me like a comic book!:D
Thaddeus....you too.

Still, I patronize my local independent FFL also.

Same here. I can't touch 9mm rounds anywhere else for even close to Wally's 100 pack Winchester target loads sell for. Most other stuff I can find at reasonable prices at other shops.

I'm almost as bad as Jonathan though. ;)

Wolfy...when I was in Walmart yesterday, I bought 9 and 45 ammo and the kid behind the counter said " is this for a handgun?" I said " huh?" and he repeated the question and I said "yeah" and handed him my money.

I thought people who sold ammo would have been more trained. seemed odd to me. Nice kid though.

And CAP....those 100 round boxes of 9mm make me all tingly inside! That's mainly what I buy the most of.

Another good reason--

Not that saving money on ammo isn't enough-- but Wally world is profit driven and buying ammo there keeps them selling-- Money and profit drives our system and profit noted on firearms related items is a great thing--politically --

I've been to the two local Walmarts and found no guns at all. Wolfy says they don't sell in NJ; guess it's the same in PA. The first gun I bought on my own was at K-mart -- 18 y.o. and a brand new Wingmaster for $200 on sale. Why the variance from state to state?

I do the WalMart white box 9mm and Federal 22 HPs all the time.
The 9 is cheaper than I can order it but the main reason I like the white box is I end up with a solid reloadable case.

On my single station or progressive it reloads great. And 9 mm is cheap to reload for sure...but....

I buy the white box, shoot it and save the cases for a rainy day when the price on a 100 round Value pack goes up to 14 dollars.
Which will happen once upon a time in the future. At least I'll have a bunch of brass to work with.

It's company policy. If ammunition could be used in a rifle/carbine or a handgun, the register pops up a "For handgun? y/n" prompt on the readout, since you must be 18 to buy longarm ammo and 21 to buy handgun ammo in the US. When I worked at WM, cashiers also had to ask customers buying ammo if they had ever been convicted of a crime of domestic violence, and refuse the sale if they said yes. It's all corporate a$$-covering.

I load 100 rounds of 9mm for $5.84.

You must not include the cost of your time in this figure, unless you consider your time worth Chinese minimum wage or just write it off as 'hobby time'.

Thanks, you have enlightened me:D I will stop caneing the boy now.:p

I had to stop by the WM after work yesterday. My list included Paper towels, Pinesol, light bulbs, etc... some how when I got to the register I had a box of Blazers in .45 ACP---Go figure?

WalMart and Ammo

I'd buy ammo from the local WalMart but their selection where I live is not that great. Late last year I discovered Academy Sports and Outdoors' selection of Winchester USA white label .45 ACP in 230-grain JHP for carry ($15.95 per 50) and Blazer FMJ ($9.95 per 50) and have been buying from them since! I was carrying Cor-Bon's 165-grain +P Pow'rBall before that...GREAT round, but at $20 for 20 rounds, it was a tad pricey.

What about the guns?

I bought a shotgun at Walmart last year, a Winchester 1300. It's decent. The guy behind the counter told me that they have a book that you can special order from that includes models that are not normally in the showcase. Anybody have any opinions on the guns at Walmart? Anybody special order anything at Wal-Mart?

What about K-Mart? Any decent guns for sale there?

Thanks.

Marco,

I'd say stay away from Kmart for guns, inasmuch they don't sell any other then bb,paintball.Thats for the KM's in my area. WM does sell decent long guns, but if course if you want quality, hit up the gunshop or go online or a private seller. I was surprised about a month ago when I saw that KM was selling a pretty good selection of shotgun ammo at decent prices, and some handgun ammo also, prices not so great. I remember years ago when KM was doing good sales in firearms, before they got scared into getting rid of them.

I buy there frequently. My wife doesn't really care to shoot but
she tollerates my semi-frequent buys. She just doesn't understand
how expensive this habit is to maintain! On ammo I frequently
find myself short. The Mrs. would raise a fit if the card or checkbook
had gunstore entry after gunstore entry BUT doesn't question
a Walmart here and a Walmart there..."just household stuff,
honey..." Nice to be able to hide a buy here and there;) .
Prices on 9 and .223 aren't bad, either.
