Hastings makes a 30 inch or so choke tube, Yup that's right, choke tube that is designed to lengthen the barrel to the point where the pressure from the burning gasses from the propellent are low enough that sound it more like popping a champagne cork than a gun blast. Very useful in the urban hunter, pest thinning role. I Also have seen loads that use buck shot encased in a Tyvek like substance, upon hitting anything the paper shreds and the loose pellets loose all energy very fast, but if it hits a deer at say 30 or 40 yards out of a shotgun barrel it acts just like a slug.
Suppressing a shotgun is relatively easy, as well with conventional means.
I am also always dismayed at the lack of understanding of the fundamentals of firearms shown by cops. One told my daughter that she was physically unable to shoot a 45 as it was just too much for her shoulders to take, that she would get arthritis from shooting one. Another Customs officer, was positive that shooting a bad guy with a 9mm was so deadly that aiming for his leg or hips was just going to blow his leg off.
The other whole genre that defies imagination is the lack of understanding that screenwriters show, but that is another post...
