Absurd reasoning behind non-firearm weapon carry laws

I remember back about 25yrs ago, I had to go into the courthouse in downtown Denver for a paperwork matter.
Going through the metal detectors, not thinking, I put my keys in the little tray.
They jumped right on my kubaton key chain and wouldn't let me past them with it (mine was a solid shaft, didn't even have a point on it)
From all the commotion they caused, you'd think I was smuggling in micro--nuke or something.

Perhaps the person in Scotland should have been using a shillelagh....... They make excellent walking aides as well.

I had one on my keyring when I went into the court house to file the marriage license. Security guard pulled it out of the metal tray, looked at it, looked at me, smiled. and put it back and I was able to pass through with it.

Generally speaking, you can't carry any item for the express purpose of self defence in the UK.
If you visit the UK, there are many items you can carry whose express purpose is not for self defence, but which may be useful in some circumstances. One example is a walking stick.
That's the nature of the beast. Just be glad it isn't like that in the US.
