Accidentally carried where illegal

NO!

They could request your permission to search your vehicle, and you could refuse. Of course, the school can also ask you to leave campus permanently if you refuse.

Hey Dive, You are lucky. When I was about 13, my little brother brought one of those cheap metal toy guns in his carry on. He had to get searched because the x-ray machine picked it up. This was in Fargo, back in 1993.

Unless I missed something and the law changed since I took my CDW coarse, no carry on school premises doesn't mean a firearm can't be in your automobile. It was only illegal if you "brandished" the firearm.

Depends on the state. Don't do it at all in NC. Educational property (private or public) in North Carolina are true gun free zones, you can't even leave an unloaded weapon locked in the trunk of your car. That's part of the reason why I haven't returned to my alma mater since graduating. I knew a guy who was nearly expelled for leaving a live shotgun shell in his pickup truck bed by mistake :banghead: .

Oh well, I guess it makes the sheeple feel "safe".

That said, a friend of mine always says "concealed means concealed." He carries EVERYWHERE except places that have metal detectors (court houses, airports). Otherwise, he always has his Glock 23 with him. His thoughts are that his life is too valuable to leave unprotected.

I have always just hid it my truck. I did a nono with air planes but that's all i'm saying. :D

In college we all had shotguns and deer rifles in the dorms. But I did go to college in Ark and I got out in 91.

What if they have PC? Some campus cops are sworn officers, so I would think that they'd have the same ability to search as any other LEO.

1. A man in Cochran, Georgia was arrested recently for accidentally carrying onto a college campus. Jail time.

2. Just try to get onto an Air Force Base with a weapon. Arrest time. Same with ammunition. Arrest time. Same with "reloading components". Arrest time. They have random vehicle searches, dogs and after 9/11 for several days I was looking at a machine gun mounted on a Humvee as I went into the gate. Spooky but needful to protect our national interests against real terriorists trying to penetrate our defense bases.

Only with a warrant or any other condition that would allow a search. That is what it boils down to. They still have to follow laws against unlawful search and seizure. And they can't get a warrant based on hearsay. That has no legal standing.

Yes, I have but I can't post about it here.

Let's just say it involved an international airport and a loaded handgun beyond security.

And a pair of soiled briefs.

in n.c., it is prohibited to carry on any educational property, public or private, of any kind.(g.s.14-269.2)
i keep my "rule book" in the car in case there is any question, especially with a member of law enforcement.

I was thinking about this just today. I was leaving the truck on the way to my hometown Christmas parade and realized I had my KT P3AT in my back pocket. I walked back to the truck to put it in b/c in NC, even with a concealed carry permit:

4. Events Occurring In Public Places
North Carolina law further makes it unlawful for any person participating in,
affiliated with, or present as a spectator at any parade, funeral procession, picket line,
or demonstration upon any public place, owned or under the control of the State of
North Carolina, or any of its political subdivisions, to willfully or intentionally possess,
or have immediate access to any dangerous weapon.

I was with my wife and baby girl, so I did not want the remote outside chance of getting "busted" for breaking a rediculous law.

present as a spectator at any parade

Hmm, so if you're going to a parade specifically to shoot someone I guess you aren't a spectator then.

it does not have to be illegal for them to make your life hell. Just like in the employment world, getting kicked out of school for violating thier weapons policy will stay with you for the rest of your life...

It's only illegal if you get caught.
No, it's illegal regardless of whether you are caught. Sure, you can't get punished for it if you aren't caught, but let's not give bad advice to people.
