Well, following the accounts of many of the members here who have airsoft practice guns, I took myself to Academy today and bought a cheap electric-operated Taurus PT-92 replica.

COOOOLLL!!!! :what:

This thing is awesome. I've been shooting it ever since I got home 2 hours ago. It's surprisingly accurate, too. The only bad part is loading the magazine with the little BBs :banghead:

I'm sure that this will improve my accuracy in the future.

heh... i used to play with it.

oh yeah, some guy posted a thread on hkpro on G36 airsoft, it was promptly locked. :D (not a real weapon, and certainly not HK!)

Hey, I love mine. No bee or fly is safe at my house within 6ft. of the muzzle.

Been known to knock bumblebees out of the air with it.

I use it for training also. It's one of the coolest training aids available.

It also hurts really bad.

Actually it is sort of funny.

7 guys in my dorm got expeled for having an 'airsoft war' in our tower. The school said that they were close enough to real weapons and all seven of the guys are now gone.

It would be nice, but after seeing what happens when you get caught around school, I think I better stay away from them at least until things cool down.

I don't want to disappoint you, but I got one of those electric-operated PT-92s and it broke in a week.:(

Those electric ones are pretty bad. I had a Tokyo Marui Centimeter Master...what a waste of money. Get a gas blow back airsoft....preferably one made by Wester Arms. They even have Glock 18C select fire!!

Here's my cheapie UHC 'Heavy' Beretta clone. It's not electric or blow back... just cock and shoot. I don't know how the velocities compare but it repeatedly will beon target from about 12 feet away from shooting position and goes through the target about 80% of the time. I've since taken to just shooting dots drawn on styrofoam. Plus the styrofoam almost always retains the plastic BB.

Yeah, I have a cheapie cock-n-shoot "heavy" Glock clone by HFC. It works pretty well so far. I love the little paintballs. But DO NOT shoot paintballs with an AEG or gas gun!:uhoh: And no, you can not take off the orange cap unless you have a hacksaw, electric tape, or black spraypaint. Plus you're breaking the law.

Plus you're breaking the law.
Really? I just though it was a thing suppliers did to make the guns look less like guns. Didn't realize it was a law... :uhoh:

Federal or state by state?

You are supposed to have the orange cap on(Fed I think) but no one seems to give a darn. If I could find someone to skirmish with I'd start stocking up on Airsoft but, alas, Alabama lacks Airsoft-eyness. However the M1A1 looks mighty realistic and costs much less than the real semi-auto.:)

BTW I was impressed with the video, mostly because the music wasn't that heavy metal crap. Queen baby. But then they had to put AC/DC on there and ruin it.

Well, you might not be breaking the law if you take off the orange cap. I just heard that somewhere, so I don't know. Winstonsmith:
What brand is it? do you know? It's probably a HFC, and thats an okay brand (My glock is HFC), not the best, but they work, and mine has worked well. $20 is a good deal, too. If you can afford it, go ahead. If it's not HFC, then tell me before you buy it. (I know about which airsoft brands are good and bad)

Apparently, federal law says that the bright orange cap is required to import, sell, trade, etc. the guns, but it says nothing about keeping it on there after the gun is in your posession.

I've owned several airsoft guns, from spring to gas, to electric. Trading your unwanted guns for people's other unwanted guns makes for great exposure to the different types and models available. To this date, I have owned:

M9's
An AK47
SG/1
M16A2
M4A1
Mossberg M500
M1A1
M203
etc.

Got any questions? Ask!

Pretty much any gun can fire the paintballs, but since the quality of the paintballs is so poor, you risk having them jam inside the barrel and gum the whole thing up. It's best to use them in single shot guns and the like.

Hey Kevlarman, how realistic is the M1A1 as far as looks and functions? Is it a good performer?

I purchased my TM MP5A5 from http://www.airsoftextreme.com/store.html

I talked to the workers there about the differences between airsoft and paintball. They had played both and said that to them the biggest difference was sportsmanship. In airsoft you don't get marked by paint so the honor system is very important for the structure of the game. They also said the personalities were less "intense" than paintball. I've only played paintball and have seen grown men scream like children and players wiping. Airsoft would be the ultimate for the tactical gear junky. One more thing, the bonus balls from airsoft hurt a lot less than in paintball.

The autos (Gas or electric) CAN NOT fire paintballs! It will mess up your gun and void the warranty!
