Spray and gun - Just isn't likely to be time to go from one to another. Or go with the gun if can't get to spray. You have to get straight with what you will do if necessary BEFORE you step out into Bear Country. If you choose wrong, you will have failed.

Having both so you have an option for different situations might make sense, but in the split second of a surprise attack the micro second your brain will take to make the decision you might well have sealed your fate.

To each your own decision, but make it before you take the hike.

I never turned my back on the cubs but some folks acted like they were raccoons or something.

I wouldn't turn my back on a racoon either! Have you ever seen one when it's pissed off or scared. The most dangerous animal in the world is one defending it's young. The second most dangerous animal in the world is one that is scared.

Trip Update

We had a great fishing trip with only one bear sighting...a blackie that took off running from what turned out to be a hot fishing hole. Three days of limits on silvers and a wonderful time in absolutely beautiful country!

Can't wait to go back!
