I'm very glad that I'm usually alert. I was in the subway station today, waiting for the train; when someone approached me, screaming something.

He shook his fist at me, and said to me "This is how I make my money, I let my fist do the talking for me.."

He was walking around in circles, threatening everybody on the platform. An office lady, a few old people, and he pretends to punch them, and when they scream for their lives, he laughs and walks away. He approached me (I was reading a book) and he came from my backside. I heard him approach and could sense him raising his arms towards me. I turned around, and was pretty much prepared to do my standard duck/under and double leg takedown. I stared at him, and he backed away.. His right hand was clinched into a fist already, and he had cocked it back, ready to deliver a blow..

Had he hit me from the back like I think he was intending to do, I would have fallen into the subway tracks.

My first thought was to break his arms, and probably take out a knee or two. As I saw the punch coming, and got a solid footing on my rear leg, and was about to take him down, he jumped back... and ran..

I'm happy I didn't have to confront him, as confrontations suck; but I was glad that I don't live in condition white; otherwise, twoblink might be in two pieces right now...

The office lady he threated before he approached me was hiding in the corner, sobbing...

I can't stand little thugs.. I feel like I should have given him a good ol' fashion beatdown.. :fire: But was glad I chose to avoid the confrontation..

but what if you went to help him avoid falling onto the subway tracks and *accidentally* broke both his legs?

what?? it could happen!

right thing

as hard as it is on our ego you did the right thing, but a part of us always hates letting bullies go unbeaten.

Great self control! People like him suck, a broken arm may very well have done him some good...but (as I'm sure you're aware) since he didn't hit you if you had beaten him down you would have prolly been in the wrong and possibly arrested and charged.

Did you or the office lady call the police? Most often these crazies are just asking to be sent to jail where they get 3 hots and a cot. He obviously gets off on scarring people by pretending to threaten violence, and probably has nothing to lose.

Its only a matter of time before this guy hurts somebody or himself, let's hope he gets himself hurt before hurting others.

I don't know about the Chow Yun Fat (no Jade Destiny sword, no .50 Desert Eagle), but I might have either gone Fumio Demura or Indiana Jones on the "sa-gua" jerk.

Twoblink pulls his heater and sticks it in the guys nostril "And THIS is how I KEEP my money!"

He ain't half as disturbed as he's gonna be if I perceive myself in danger. Once he gets out of the ER he can go sign up for his meds. I'm no "cowboy" (in the perjorative usage), but if I or my loved ones are threatened I don't care what "issues" the other person has. :fire:

What, Janie left her nylon zipties at home so you couldn't restrain him to the nearest fire hydrant? :D

Good going. Brush up on that wrestling!

I hate bullies! :fire: Lots of hot air but no stones to back it up. I wonder if he would have had the guts to harrass the commuters if one or two 20-something year old men were among them. If I'm not mistaken, Taiwan has compulsory military service and the presence of one or two ex-servicemen with basic hand to hand training would have either deterred the bastard or they would have placed him under citizen's arrest whilst waiting for the cops to arrive. Of course, he would have to be knocked flat on his butt first.........

Incidentally TwoBlink.....I'm assuming you're a Taiwanese national, so have you been drafted yet? If you've done your time could you tell me what hand-to-hand training in the R.O.C military is like?

I couldn't tell if he was mentally missing a few screws, or if he was just violent, but the fact that he raised a fist and cocked it, meant I was about to go UFC on him... I don't really care what mental state he's in. In fact, if he's not all there, I think he's more dangerous, as holds etc.. are less likely to work as he might feel no pain..

SaxonPig you are wrong.. anytime someone tries to hurt me, he's going down.

Because if it's a choice between me and him, I know who I'm picking to go down first!!

The lady was seriously disturbed. Call the police? The guy stepped onto the train already... The police here are as useless as a politician with their tougues cut out.

They learn very little now in the military here. Going to the Army and "doing your time" was hard before, but now, it's a joke, as most of the military is all dependent on not foot soldiers but American bought military technology. So most don't train anything nowadays.

My stare has been the best deterrent thus far... Most people seem to know a cold stare when they see one, and I think the establishment of who is the alpha male deterred the crime..

I'm brushing up on my skills again, or at least trying to, can't find a good dojo around me though... frustrating. But the self-training has been excellent thus far.. Just need to regain my strength and flexibility first..

Funny that you should say that TwoBlink.....I met a few Taiwanese Infantrymen back in 99 and I had the impression that they were as tough as nails.

Anyhow, my point was that scumbags ALWAYS been to accost only those who are vulnarable. Trouble from thugs seems to crop up only when people are unprepared/unaware.

I think this man is mentally disturbed rather than a violent criminal. That doesn't mean he can't scare and even hurt people, but he hardly deserves to have his legs broken. Unfortunately, a lot of unbalanced people are walking around amongst us.

Nah,, surely you jest! You can't be serious, have another cup of jo and clear them cobwebs out!:scrutiny:

twoblink, where is Jung He City? I spent some time in Taipei and Taichung when I was a kid. (TAS was probably the worst school I was ever in. :p )

Jung He City is at the end of the Orange Line MRT.

When I see most bullies, I think they need a good beat down... It's tough, if he doesn't lay a hand on you, it might be assault on your part if you lay a hand on him. But do you really want to wait for him to hit you?

As a unix guy myself;

cat perp >> /dev/null

The guy is a nut looking for attention at the gentle hands of the Taiwanese police. Four point restraints plus some thorazine and he'll be "happy" as can be.

A fight avoided is a fight won. You did it exactly right. The only suggestion I would make is to not stand such that someone can push you off the platform. Just as easy to stand with your back against a wall or column. We all try to live in Yellow, but sometimes we, all of us, zone. Best to think about position before hand.
Good job!

I did what I thought was best; not what I wanted to do. People like that, need a good fist-to-mouth meeting... as my old coach use to say..

"I think this man is mentally disturbed rather than a violent criminal. "

Why can't he be both ?

I am not sure of Taiwan law but my understanding in the US ( Varies from state to state ) is that if a " reasonable & prudent man (woman)" would believe that they are under or about to be under attack that legally you can defend yourself.

I have no idea how the Laywers are in Taiwan.

But it is still better to avoid the fight if possible.

Yep, love Chinese food.

I did too, til I had it in China! :(

Good job, Twoblink. You did the right thing. But "useless as a politician with his tongue cut out"??? Man, that would be a big improvement with most of them! :D
