Friend from the 'job' called to ask if I would swap ammo with him as he needed .22 RF.

So he gave me 11 50round boxes of .40 S&W,and 4 boxes of 9MM.

I gave him 3 bricks of .22 and some loose stuff and that was about 200+ rounds.

Just curious if y'all think I did well or not.

Thanks

What is the actual round-for-round exchange?

Was it 550 rounds of .40 and 200 rounds of 9x19, traded for 1500 + 200 of 22LR?

A "brick" and a "box" are variable units of measure.

Assuming you have items that eat .40/9mm, then yes, I would say you got a good deal.

If he needed .22 like, yesterday... then I guess he got the better deal from his position.

I see signs that the .22 ammo is coming back. I think you'll be able to get it fairly easily at or near pre-panic prices by Labor Day. So if you believe that (as I do), then I think you did fine.

I never know when I see a subject header like this whether the buyer is wanting approbation or having a bit of buyer's remorse.

Using typical gunbroker prices for in stock ammo:

11 50 round boxes of = $220 (0.40 per round)

4 50 round boxes of 9 mm = $64 (0.32 per round)

3.4 500 round "bricks" of .22 = $340 (0.20 per round)

Not necessarily a "good" deal. But close enough to be a "fair" deal. And really, any deal not done under coercion is a "fair" deal.

When things first started going sideways I traded off .22LR for other different ammo, primers & whatnot. Monetarily, I guess it was pretty much a wash or one party might have come out a little behind or ahead, but I hope we all came away happy with the deals. Except for one case (I was an idiot in hindsight) I know I was happy. ;)

Id say you traded $75 worth of product for $240 worth of product and made out like a bandit... unless you were one of those people that paid $80 for a brick of 22.

Ok

I guess I did not add the obvious ?.

I shoot .40 S&W for my CCW pistols as well as the 9MM for a few of the same.

I bought the traded .22's for about 10.00 a brick [ 550 ].

And my bro bought his .40's at about 10.00 per box too.

I see that I have enough RF ammo to last a 'few' years if I don't go crazy and shoot a brick a month as I used to do.

Don't need affirmation - just was hoping to pass some time and shoot the breeze - sorry if I annoyed y'all.

You simply didn't provide enough information for anyone to respond.

If you provide 3 x 550 round bricks of .22lr (lr is the proper term since .22 short, cb, lr are ALL rim fire) at $10 per in exchange for 550 rounds of .40cal (we have to assume fmj instead of defensive ammo since you don't specify, but you subsequently claim it is for your carry gun so we have no idea what you traded for since it might be Corbon or Federal) and some four boxes of some unclear quantity (20, 50, 100, ???) of 9mm(ball, fmj, ???) then you got a killer deal or a lousy deal, but then we'll never know since you weren't really interested in telling us enough to know what you were talking about.

There's no way to affirm you screwed your "bro" or not.

For the record, I responded based on shortly pre-Newtown pricing. I assumed about $20/brick (give or take) for the .22lr.

Erroneous assumption on my part, as you have now confirmed.

I do not shoot .22, though I happen to have a little put away. I wold be willing to get 9mm or .40 as long as I am not lining the pockets of a predawn Walmart scalper.

@ HSO

So your the moderator and your 'flaming' me with that rude post ?

Please follow your own rules and give yourself a few days off.

If I responded in kind --- I would be banned for at least a few days.

I was not trying to "screw" my bro [ another retired LEO ] but to have a topic to converse as to ammo value.

Sadly too many [ including yourself ] see it as a chance to be rude and asinine to a fellow shooter.

The ammunition was BALL and I use it to PRACTICE the skills that I need for the EDC CCW.
