Time to stock up on 22 lr ammo again.

Some of the results are bizarre, but make sense when the context is considered.
And I know... I need to shoot more .223/5.56! :D (haven't had time to get out to the rifle range lately.)

eta: probably need to work on my headers but:
Annual Use == lifetime total shot, divided by number of days since I started shooting that caliber, times 365
Last 365 Days and Last 90 Days are self explanatory.
the associated Supply (Years) column is how long that supply is projected to last based on the prior column consumption calculation, in years. It's why the 12ga is so weird looking, but correct. :D

IDK how much .22 ammo I have currently, I think it's somewhere north of 5k rounds, maybe 10k. I don't feel I need more because it's going to be available, just not at low prices if the political winds shift in a certain direction and the premium stuff like CCI Velocitor will disappear just like it did last time.

So, in that regard, I may go ahead and get another 500 rounds of Velocitor and wait for another CCI Standard Velocity sale. IMO, for the better quality and accuracy you get in standard velocity, it beats anything a $25 bulk packed brick that Remington, Federal, or Winchester offers.

Pairing down on the different .22 LR to less than 5 different types is a good way to go. A standard velocity for accuracy and quiet report, a hyper velocity for max power, a heavy bullet for good penetration (Aguila SSS), and a match ammo for competitions.

Oh, something else to mention, back during the last panic, I was able to find .22 Short at the same prices they were pre-panic. While semi auto .22's can only shoot it if it's already chambered and there's one in the magazine, revolvers and rifles with tube mags shoot them just fine. Rifles that use Ruger 10/22 mags could possibly run .22 Short as there are special .22 Short only 10/22 rotary magazines available.

Finally, if another panic does come, the first rimfire ammo that's going to disappear and stay disappeared for a long while is going to be .22 Magnum. If you have a .22 Mag handgun you or a family member uses for defense and you have half a box of the premium short barrel defense .22 Mag ammo, get some more ASAP. Same goes for those who have a rifle that favors a particular ammo.

Once the panic buying hits, ammo manufacturers stop producing .22 Mag on the machines and change them over to .22 LR to meet demand and make more money.

I’m terrible with spreadsheets. I just have a quick look and say to myself, looks like I could use some more of that.
I did relabel. Color coded to make it easier to keep track.:)

I gave some away to those that actually needed some .22 and would appreciate them. The others, that you refer to as "moochers", I offered to sell them some at the scalpers prices. Not many takers for some reason.;) Same thing with my reloads. Offered to teach them how to reload and let them use my tools until they got set up. Not many takers there either.

Yea, in some ways I have OCD, and in others I don't. Plus I'm a computer guy by occupational hazard, so it gave me an excuse to practice and keep my Excel skills sharp.

When I take noobies to the range for the first couple of times, I never ask them to pay for ammo (honestly, they don't wind up shooting a lot anyways.) But if you get into the habit and decide to buy your own gun, you damn well better buy your own gun food! :D

Actually your ammo cans kind of remind me of my basement!

I double checked this morning on the amount of 22lr ammo I have on hand. It’s just over 10,000 rounds. I’m glad I ordered more before I got to low. I only have a little over 1,000 rounds of CCI Mini Mags so, I should order some more along with some standard velocity.
I bought 200 rounds of Federal Gold Metal Target the other day to try out. If it shoots good, I may order a bunch.
I’m also thinking about ordering 5,000 rounds of Aguila Standard velocity.

Finally I'm one up on you with something! I checked my ammo inventory list and I have over 40,000 rounds of .22! Mostly Wolf Match Target, CCI MiniMags, and Federal Auto Match.

I only have 5,000 of 9mm. and I'm down to 4,000 of .223; could use some more of them before too long.

I've been buying a variety of .22 LR and .22 Mag ammo as I find it. Never in huge lots, usually from 200 to 1,000 at a time. After my run up to Fresno and finding a mecca of .22 LR at Sportsman's Warehouse two weeks ago cost me about 270 bucks for numerous different .22 brands and types, the LR in 50-round boxes is now filling up 6 .50 cal ammo cans, plus unopened bricks are taking up almost half of a 48"x 24" steel shelf in the garage. At least three of the ammo cans are match ammo from Norma, RWS, CCI and Aguila. The .22 Mag fills 3 .50 cal ammo cans and another quarter of the shelf. (I believe my most recent purchase was Weds of this past week at a Winchester LE ammo distributor I know..2 boxes of Ranger SXT 127 gr +P 9mm for the PC carbine's 33 round mags, 500 42 gr .22 LR power point and 250 JHP .22 Mag.)

I am certainly not at the level many of you are with regards to my personal cache, but I do have enough on hand to shoot for a long time without interruption.

I gave away numerous bricks of .22 LR ammo during the panic to friends here and there who couldn't find any to shoot, with the caveat that they stock up for themselves once ammo became available again. Most have heeded that advice and have put up enough to plink or target shoot to last for a while, one or two will be out of luck come the next one because I suddenly ran out (The old "And and the Grasshopper" routine).

Stock up (when you can) and stay safe!

Forget the cheap stuff Gunny; find some SK Rifle Match. I got a 5 shot group of 0.351" at 50 yards in a 5-10 mph crosswind with that stuff today. Need to buy more of it. I thought Remmy Subsonic was best for several of my rifles but SK Rifle Match has it beat in the two that count.

I do have some high end ammo. When I find ammo that shoots really good in a gun, I buy a bunch of it. Right now I’m stocking up on plinking ammo.

Even at the height of the panic the high end stuff was more often available. I do believe that it was because of the added amount that it normally costs so it just sat there unpurchased for a longer while. Yep, now is the time to stack it deep as most will not learn from the last go round sadly.

I get .5" groups with CCI Standard and that stuff is so cheap you can buy twice as much of it compared to SK Match ammo, which for the purposes of this thread quantity is the focus before supply issues develop due to demand.

Last time during shortages, SK match and Eley match were still available at reasonable prices given their performance.

The match ammo did and the sadder fact is people were hesitant to buy that "overpriced boutique ammo" and instead paid more for CCI Mini Mags cuz that's what they've always shot.

Agree now is the time to spend $100-200 on .22. That would give about 1000 rds of premium .22 LR, 2000 rounds of quality, non bulk packed stuff, 3500 rounds of bulk bricks.
