Back when the ammo shortage hit I had somewhere around 35,000 rounds of 22lr ammo. As time went by that number started going down for a few reasons.
I didn’t do like some others did and try to rape people just to make a profit. But I did sale foo a good bit.
I have a good many friends that ran out of ammo and weren't able to take there kids or grand kids shooting. Most of them know that I have always kept a lot of 22 ammo on hand because, I have over 60 firearms chambered in 22lr. So just about every moth a friend was hitting me up for ammo.
I remember one of my friends worked at a LGS and couldn't get any ammo. He asked if I had any Federal 550 bulk packs left and I told him yes. He offered me $75 for one box. I asked him if he had lost his mind, but he said that that was the going rate at the time. I sold him two bulk packs for $60.
I also have family members that hit me up for ammo. It's hard to tell your nephews that there Uncle Lee couldn't afford to give them some ammo. But I did tell them not to waste it.
When ever I found good deals on ammo, most often at Walmart, I would buy more, but my ammo count took a pretty good hit during the shortage and I got down to just a few thousand rounds.
Now that 22lr ammo is in stock just about everywhere I have been keeping my I open for deals. Yesterday I scored 5000 rounds of Aguila Super Extra 40gr HV plated round nose for .03 cents a round shipped to the house. That's $50 less then what I could have gotten it last week.

As soon as it arrives a 500 round brick will be going to Gunner. If you don't remember Gunner. He's my Ex Wife's little boy that I gave a 22 rifle to.

He told me last week that he didn't have any more ammo for his rifle.

I'll most likely be buy more 22 ammo over the next few months.

Good price on that ammo and I know Gunner will be happy .

My nephew and is wife are having their second child soon . The first was a girl , she just turned 1 in Aug. . This one is a boy and they are going to name him Gunner .

My M-41 prefers CCI-SV so that's what I buy and stock up on when I find it on sale.
I still have a few bricks of Federal bulk from KMart I bought while in college in the 70's and a few boxes of Super X from the same era, but nothing to shoot them with.

Is there any more available at that price/?
I have a "Prime Ammo Membership" at Target Sport USA which gives me a discount on anything I buy and I also get free shipping on any ammo order no matter how big or small.
Here is a link to the ammo, they also have it in HP. without the discount it's .04 cents a round and free shipping if you order bulk. I have already made up the cost of the Prime Ammo Membership in my last two orders.

You have to shoot enough to make the membership fees worthwhile, but targetsportsusa and sportwmansguide memberships are worthwhile for me. Other than the occasiona Walmart or Academy run, these two usually keep me supplied. Occasionally AIM Surplus or others will have a good enough deal that they are still less expensive after including shipping.

I'll have to ponder this one as my 'I don't reload for that' and/or 'better to order online' ammo needs are limited to 22LR and occasional gifts to others in far away places,,,, Doesn't look like break-even would be ~hard~ to reach, but I already have a bad habit of squirreling away ammo,,, (Every time I do inventory, I come up with the same 'Don't need any more of anything' results, but I'm still a sucker for a sale,,,,,)

Hmmm,,,,

Wow and I thought I was bad!! I buy my ammo by the case too, and only had 3 and a half cases of .22lr when the shortage hit. Now I keep 5 on hand. Yes the UPS guys hate me.

Somehow, I have to break the "ammo hoarding" habit. I just bought 8 pounds of 223 powder from Brownels. I have 100's of pounds of loaded ammo on hand. Why do I do this?? Doctor! please analyze me! Old ammo cans make my hands sweat. I love the smell of burned powder!
Rifles and pistols make me pant with tongue dripping. I use gun oil to cook with..... help! :)

I hear ya Total,,,
After reading this thread, I went so far as "Well, if I could just get a few guys together,,, load up a truck,,,," :what:

If you like CCI mini-mags, PSA has "choot-em" boxes of 300 for 14.99, shipped free if 5 boxes or more. That works out to about a nickel for those. I will have to check on targetsports, however, as it sounds like they've got a good variety and some great deals.

I’m not ashamed. I have just over 10,000 rounds of 5.56 on hand and thinking of ordering more.

Target Sports has CCI Standard Velocity for $25/brick. Standard velocity was the only thing I didn't have much of during the banic because I didn't own a silencer until 2014. I recall paying north of $50 for it just to get my hands on some.

I think maybe squirreling away a case might not be a bad idea. I bought a case of the Eley bulk stuff that CMP is selling (it's slightly better ammo than the CCI in my two best rifles) but the CCI is now $100 cheaper for a case.

I stocked up on one of my favorites (Wolf Match Target), when I found it for $3.49/50 at a gun show some years back. Bought all that they had (10 bricks), and have been happily enjoying them ever since! Could use some more CCI SV as a few of my .22s (especially my SIG Trailside), really love it!

I’ve git maybe 12k rounds or so. I’ve gotten my granddaughter into shooting. She loves my .22 Buckmark. We’ve gone thru a box (325 rounds) in a few weeks. Guess I’m gonna have to get some more.

I'm "down" to 18.5k on .22lr. Spreadsheets says that. 5.24 years of usage left, but I think I need to figure out how to change the formula to take into account visit frequency as an adjuster. Popped off 1800+ rounds in just the past month, which would mean 10 months left at that rate, vs. 5+ years.

eta: maybe an "all time" annual average and a "past 365 days" average, or some other date range.
