For SOCOM money you could get two Saiga308v21's with real wood thumbhole stocks

I do believe that the SOCOM uses a slightly different Gas cylinder system. I think that piston is shorter.

You said you wanted a SHTF rifle (versus a take-me-to-the-prom rifle), so I'd go for a high-quality light-weight milspec AR15. Easy to scavenge parts for, dependable platform, easy-to-find ammo. Don't worry about "match-grade" crap or hanging all kinds of doo-dads on rails, because you're just worried about whether it will go bang when you pull the trigger.

But I want a powerful rifle that can be used all around. S.H.T.F.,

I suggest you stop using terms like SHTF. We don't do SHTF, EOTWAWKI, or Zombie threads. Bringing those terms into the thread is taking a chance on getting it closed. Most of us don't plan on going into battle.

For a good battle ready AR15 look into.

BCM, LMT, Colt, Daniel Defense, Noveske and KAC.

These are no nonsense weapons. A properly built AR15 is a very reliable weapon with a need for lubrication every so often. A good 5.56 hollow point or soft point is a very devastating bullet.

For the .308s the M1A, FAL, and G3 models are also very good selections.

.308 is meh, 7.5 Swiss is where its at.:D If you have some money to burn buy the Rolls Royce of 20th century battle rifles, the Sig PE57. I'd certainly own one if my communist state would let me.:cuss:

The LMT .308 and LWRC Repr are pretty nice rifles as well. With battle rifles they are all good, so it just comes down to personal preference.
