Some of my friends think i'm crazy because i feel the need for more guns. Here's my arguement.. i like them, its a stress reliever, it's a hobby & it's for home protection. How much is too much and how much is enough? I feel that people should have more because in case SHTF, you're going to need a back up gun, one for your significant other etc etc. ALso what if SHTF and you end up hurting or taking down the intruder, the LEO will take away your gun as evidence, what then? If you have more than one, you could still protect your loved ones with ther other guns in case something happens again while your weapon is with the police dept for evidence. I've heard horror stories about some people never getting their gun back from the LAPD. Or what if you need to send in your gun for a check up, you're going to need a weapon to protect your home plus another back up for that. Am i wrong or am i just a gun nut? :uhoh:

Nope.

When the zombies come, I'm going to be the only guy on my block with belt feds and 40mm grenade launchers. :)

But Correia- I know where you live.

Don't worry though. I'll bring food, water, and just a smidgin of ammo. Oh-and some bulletproof panels.:D

As for the original poster: Do you have a dozen of any caliber yet? If not, you aren't even up to snuff. Do you have at least 3 reloading presses, and a thousand rounds of ammo per gun? No? Keep going.

Seriously though, your money to spend. Do what you want.

So how much is enough

Or is there no such thing as having enough? My buddy has one and i always tell him that i'd feel naked with just one.

My wife is of the "Why do you need another one?" opinion.

To me, that's a question that never needs to be asked. Kinda like "Want another beer?"

P.S... When I grow up, I want to move next door to Correia...

Enough-no such thing!!

For me it is also a hobby. Like most people on this site I have enough to start a smalll war, or finish it. My theory is they are a blast to shoot [no pun intended] They also serve a dual purpose of protecting the family, freinds, home, car, etc. [if someone breaks into this casa they will face a hail of lead, even the wife can shoot!-if they get past the dogs!-Love em both]

I look at this way some people like to boat ,fish, golf, etc. I love to blow the hell out of things. Its a stress releiver and a nice hobby. Just be responsible, and be safe. I have a passion for guns its ok-at least I do not have a passion for alcohol, or some addictive substance. As long as I keep my passion for women under control, I will not have to dodge the wifes bullets. Seriously its is a lot of fun, and could someday save the life of you, or a loved one!

Take cae buddy-and God Bless!

Well do I feel under gunned.

I feel OK with the guns I have at home right now. I have a double barrel 12 gauge shotgun, .308 semiautomatic browning hunting rifle. One XD .45 acp 5 inch tactical bk/bk, one XD .40 S&W Subcompact grn/blk. A 9mm glock 17 with several 31 round magazines full of ammo. Hey there is always room for more guns. I'm now looking for a good .357 magnum revolver to add to my collection and I could use several more rounds of ammo for each gun, just in case the I have to hold off a small terrorist unit for a couple of days. It's always better to be prepared just in case.

Everytime I see a photo of the USS Missouri firing it's guns I feel very undergunned !!

ceetee, forget my house. I'm going to my gunstore. :)

(walls are thicker)

I do. As of now I only have one rifle that would be good for fighting. A Mossin M38. I also have a .22 and a Savage .308 w/scope. I need a good AR or FAL/Cetme.

I also only have one major caliber pistol, a G23. I also have a Walther P22, but I doubt the power of those rounds from such a short barrel.

I also dont have a shotgun.

Here is what I need to not feel undergunned:

AR15 or FAL/Cetme
Mossberg 500
Beretta 92FS
S&W 1911
S&W 642
Ruger Blackhawk .45 Colt

Once I get these guns, or similar models, I will turn to my want list....which is MUCH larger.

I certainly want more guns. I only have a 22 pistol and two 9mm pistols. I would like 1 or 2 more 9mm pistols and a carbine and a shotgun. I'm sticking with 9mm for now just for cost and availability of ammo. Once I get those weapons, I'll have to think it over as to what will be next. I'm fighting an anti-bleeding heart liberal-wife, but I'm making inroads slowly and incrementely. So, yes I certainly do feel outgunned right now, but I plan to change that.

I feel I have enough-too many in fact. Lately I've been disciplining myself to
sell off something before I buy more guns. So if I want something new I cull thru my safe queens and get rid of something I don't use or no longer want.
If not, I think I would definitely be out of hand with my gun purchases. Of course, I've been buying guns since the early seventies and have accumulated way too much stuff. I'm a long way from undergunned.

The thing I'm worried about more than the guns is the ammo and component
situation. I reload and have also accumulated a lot of ammo over the years but I have never seen prices rise on ammo this quickly before. Thats whats
scary to me. You may be able to buy all the guns you want but have little
or nothing to feed them.

I suppose if one has provided sufficient shelter, food, clothing, and other necessities for his family, he is entitled to as many guns as his heart desires. The problem comes when there is a difference of opinion as what constitutes 'sufficient' in the eyes of a gun collector and his spouse.

I don't think I have a lot of guns, but when someone asks me how many I do have I have to do some mental muzzle counting to come up with a correct number.

When the ex-PMS packed her bags and left four years ago, she never complained that my gun hobby was excessive or extravagant.

In the end, Silent Knight, it falls upon you to decide how many guns is enough and how many is excessive.

Undergunned??? NO.
Now, years ago during the LA Riots, I counted that as a SHTF occassion and went to 2 handguns, my P7M8 & my j-frame and my shotgun. In the urban setting, that seemed more than adequate.
If things had gotten worse, I don't know if carrying any more would have done me any good. I am w/ alot of other members in that my collection is ever evolving  and growing

Undergunned? No. But I would like to move up from the mini-14 to a Rock River Arms AR, purely for accuracy and aesthetic reasons. The mini is plenty accurate for defensive purposes, but I like the aesthetics of the mid-length AR platform, the ergonomics are better, and 1" groups at 100 yards are a lot more fun than 5" groups.

I'm not under-vehicled, either (I love my car, even though it's a '97), but if somebody offered to buy me a new 3-series BMW or a Volvo S40T5, I'd take them up on it... :)

Being content with what you have doesn't mean that you wouldn't improve the situation if the opportunity comes along.

Undergunned, yes.

Worried about it, no.

Not so much worried about number of guns I need, more worried about number of trustworthy trigger pullers I got with me. (I need to sleep sometime)

In a SHTF or TEOTWAWKI situation, my circle of friends have several rally points, both within the city and in outlaying "country" areas.

People tend to think too tactically instead of strategically.

these are some of my favorite sorts of threads.....everybody agrees on what is being said.....specifically, that owning and becoming intimately involved with one's firearms is a holy rite, and that we are proudly continuing to exercise our rights as armed citizens. keep hording:) my norinco sks is suitable for any situation.
