That is a nice looking piece of walnut, and there are a lot of guns that would look really good on, but the AR15 IS NOT one of them!

Now that I have seen plastic on an AK and wood on an AR I have to say that both are just wrong. It's like seeing an entire airplane wing on the back of a honda civic. (lions slowly shakes his head in disappointment)

I would think the wood would make the rifle a bunch heavier; however, it does look different and kind of nice wood. Don't know if it is a consideration, but the plastic is probably tougher. A shame to ding up a nicely figured piece of wood! Also I wonder what effect heat is to the wood hand guard:confused:

If we could finish the metal out in Royal Blue and have a gold trigger I think I'd buy one.

---Pondering on how to make aluminum look like Colt Royal Blue....

I don't believe that heat would be an issue, the AK seems to do just fine with wood furniture, well unless you get retarded with it. :)

I have a lower has been gathering dust waiting for the perfect 24 inch varmint build. That wood furniture will definitely be a part of my varmint gun.

Oh the picture of that in my mind send more "shivers down my leg" than some journalist excited over Obamam getting elected!

Related thread.

I don't like the short barrel guard, though. Having the front sight post only halfway down the barrel looks really dumb, IMO.
I agree with Geoff.

I swear I've seen pictures of early M16 models that sported wood furniture in the hands of Special Forces troops.
IIRC Colt made some early 601s and 602s with brown-colored plastic furniture. Some AR-10s were finished that way too (see for example here). Perhaps that's what you're thinking of?

Well, OK, confession time.

At first I said "no, don't like it",
but now, I'm actually starting to warm up to it.

Took getting past the initial shock.

I still want my AR (when I get it) to wear synthetic furniture,
but aesthetically, this ain't so bad.

It's at least nice wood. Maybe doing some other color with the metal parts ...

Not a fan, looks like an AR sneaking into an AK party. There's a reason they call it the Black rifle, some rifle's can pull it off, just not this one. Maybe a darker stain though.

FWIW, Armalite used to offer std. plastic stock sets with a "Redwood" pattern/finish -- at first glance they really looked like wood, but were std. in every other way.

I have a couple of sets of these out in my shop, I'll see if I can dig up a picture.

Oh, as for the OP -- I am a die-hard AR guy, and I like the look of that wood furniture set myself. :)

At first, I'm thinking oil and water. I do have a passion for nice wood though, and the longer I looked at it the better I liked it. So I'm on the pro side now but, well, not entirely comfortable with the concept yet...

I'm always a fan of different and like it, but for me AR = Black and Tommy Gun = wood. I'll take one of each!!!!!

I think its nice. Also I think alot of people treat their ar's like safe queens, so durability isnt a factor imho.
