I can't get the friggen locking screw off on the end of the buttstock. The one that keeps the stock on the buffer tube.

I must be doing something wrong, anyone know?

Thanks

It should have threadlock of some sort on it.

Use a BFS (big effin' screwdriver:D ) and hold the stock between your knees or in a padded vise.

Some force will be required.;)

If it comes to it, and the screw is trashed, make sure you buy the proper replacement. This screw has a hole in it to allow air and water to be pushed out of the buffer tube as the action cycles.

Hope this helps.

I tried just about everything but I finally got it off using my Dad's impact wrench. Even with the impact wrench we had to whack it several times before it broke loose.

Is friggen red loctite really needed on this screw?

Had the same problem trying to get the buffer tube off my Bushmaster. Gave a loud crack when it finally came loose. Bushmaster told me that they use no locktite, but also use no lubricants so the fittings stay put.

Heh my Bushmaster definitely had red loctite on it. If the replacement stock screw has red loctite on it I'm tempted to remove it and use blue loctite instead.

Never use red loc-tite on the buffer tube of an AR. To get the stuff to come loose you have to heat it up to about 400 degrees, which may raise hell with the aluminum of the rifle. Lacking heating it, you will have to use so much torque that you may bend the ring into which the buffer tube screws. Use blue loc-tite if you must. What about a wrap or two of teflon tape? I use nothing; just the right amount of torque.

There is a place for Loc-Tite.
Anything on an AR-15/M16 isn't one of them~!
Wait, wait, let me correct that.
Special gas blocks are the only place where Loc-Tite may be neccessary on an AR15/M16!@ :)
