Armed standoff on Mexican Border

Before members of the esteemed forum get huffy remember the term has an historical origin. It is illegitimate to to impose current social morality on historical usage. The term is still used on the border and is not racist.

You can't look at any given Mexican and tell if he swam across a river or not.
And where has anybody implied that you can.

Reading BototmGuns posts it should be obvious that he is talking about illegals. This is further supported by his post explaining that he is referring to illegals.

The term wetback is not a racial slur it is an accusation of a criminal act
I believe you are thinking of "beaner"

The use of the term wetback in this case does not make him look anymore like an uneducated racist ,to anybody who read the comment in it's entirety, than your trying to make a race issue of it makes you look like a panty wetting bleeding heart to you

I've always thought that a wetback is anyone who crosses the Rio Grande illegally, be they Mexican, Chinese, or any other nationality. To the original issue of the dozer and drug runners, a .50 cal injection of lead in the dozer will end that activity for a while. Issue a bunch of cameras and a few Barrett's to the officers in the area, photograph the activity for proof and kill the dozer.

Yes, "wetback" is indeed a slur. It is directed at unwelcome trespassing criminals who are breaking our law. It's generally offensive to wetbacks and uneducated young liberals.
My ex wife uses the term when she speaks of them and so do her relatives. It's humorous to think of them as racists since they are all 100% Mexican. FWIW, our grandaughter's last name is Lopez.
I have a black cat too.:p

FYI, the BP and deputy sheriffs apprehend Asians, South & Central Americans and lots of other nationalities coming across the line. They have even found knapsacks here which contain documents written in Abrabic. Doesn't that fact give you a warm fuzzy?
FWIW, they are all wetbacks to us. We have the same low regard for any criminal ignoring our law.

My home is approx 10 miles from the border. This used to be one of the last unspoiled areas in the state. Now, it is fast turning into a garbage dump courtesy of our neighbors to the south.
Our local Game & Fish officer told me that even the wildlife is being affected by the constant flow of traffic through here from the border 24 hours a day. Up until a few years ago, we never locked our doors here. Now, I have to lock my home and my vehicles and I carry a serious rifle whenever I'm out in the National Forest.

I have been burglarized three times, forced to evacuate my home once due to a wildfire which was proven to have been started by these "guest workers" picking up a little side cash by hauling drugs (one of my neighbors lost everything in this fire), and have been approached by groups of these "immigrants" intent upon taking my vehicle from me (or possibly worse) on three separate occasions. On each occasion, the fact that I was armed saved my butt. It made them reconsider.
Each time I was burglarized they left trash and clothing from Mexico so I'm not speculating about who did it.

On the flip side, I have given countless jugs of water to some of the ones I've run into while out in the hills. You can tell which ones are here for jobs and which ones are here for no good.
On several occasions, I have driven them to the port of entry in Naco or Nogales (at their request) and have given them money so they could get back home after they changed their minds about the whole thing. Either port of entry is over 40 miles away. I didn't mind helping them since they seemed sincere.

It's easy to sit behind a keyboard 2,000 miles away and point fingers at someone who doesn't meet your high standards of political correctness. I'm not offended by it though because I know that a lot of people simply don't know any better and also because I just plain don't care what people think.

Besides, I never pretended to be politically correct. In fact, I'm sick of this current politically correct nonsense. It's an escape from reality.
I'm also tired of picking up an item at the store and having to search all over the package for a language I can read. If you want to come to live in our country, learn the language like my people did.

In closing, I'd like to invite the gentleman from SC to come out here to help us with these border issues. We need more folks here who have all the answers.

I don't care about "political correctness", and I think the border should be closed just as fast as the next guy.

I'm just telling you how use of the term "wetback" will get you viewed by the general population.

Call me a liberal all you want... doesn't much hurt my feelings. Then again, "I've never much cared what people think".

Illegals?

A message to the illegals: come here the way my wife did from Chile...legally! Learn the language the way she did. Otherwise get the hades out of the USA! :barf:

For fact, the illegals are only 1/3 of the problem. The "Democrats" and the "Republicans" are each also 1/3 of the problem. They could solve it in 24 to 72 hours. Close the border. Sweep the nation and evict the illegals. They don't want to.

Reps want cheap labor; Dems want future votes after they are "legalized". Meanwhile they give away "Amerika" one illegal at a time...sometimes by the truck-load of illegals. It makes me feel like vomiting! :barf:

+1!!

Best post in the thread thusfar.

NY32182,

I do appreciate your concern, Sir, but I really don't see how the "general population" views me will affect this border issue.

Besides, isn't "general population" a term used for inmates? Are you in prison, Sir?

I don't know, are YOU in prison? Do they have internet access in prison?

I don't think its a very far fetched idea that the view of the population/general population/average citizen of the USA might have an effect on border policy. I believe that a large public outcry is the only thing that will make the politicos address the situation. As has been noted, the parties in power will never work up any interest by themselves in closing the border.

I don't know what the accepted climate ON the border is like, but sitting here in conservative SC, spending the next month finishing my computer engineering degree at conservative-by-SC-standards Clemson, I can tell you that even here, people don't want to associate themselves with people who would use the term 'wetback'. They might think the wide open border may need tightening, or they might be open to listening about it. But they aren't going to listen to anything that follows the word 'wetback' if they are listening to someone talk about why we need to close the border... and that is in conservative SC, not liberal-everywhere-else.

Any propoganda master will tell you that facts are irrelevant, and appearance/perception is all that matters. I agree with them when it comes to presenting situations that the target audience has little or no first hand experience with.

It is a spit in the face to our rich heritage of legal immigration. My family appreciates America because we immigrated here legally after the USSR fell. We had waited patiently for years as thousands of others did.

Americans don't understand what freedom really is. Life wasn't great when we had to wait 3 hours on line for bread, or had "Jew" stamped on our passport meaning we were handed the worst jobs.

Now people are simply walking over the border and are greeted with hugs and kisses. I just threw up in my mouth. And the fouding fathers are rolling over in their graves.

Change will only be possible when people walk into walmart and find the shelves empty. For now we are the government's bitches.

NY32182,

My my. . . .a real student. No wonder you have all the answers without being burdened by any practical experience. :p

I'm sorry for laughing but I just realized the underwear I'm wearing is a lot older than you are. :neener:

Thanks for your counsel, Sir. My invitation still stands.
