Does anyone have an opinion on what might be the best 9mm? I am looking to buy my first gun and was wondering some people's opinions.

Tough one. I own what I consider to be the top 4. Beretta 92FS, Sig P226, Browning HP and the Glock 17. I'd say any of these would serve you well.

Glock 19 (17 would be my 2nd choice, the 19 is better sized)
easy manual of arms
never breaks (ok, super rarely), eats everything, etc
great first gun, same trigger all the time. (no DA/SA)

should run for 1000's of rounds with no issues

Sig 228 is a fine gun, although not made anymore

But me, for a first gun, the 9mm is a good choice, and the Glock is just unkillable.

My personal favorite is the H&K P7M8. The finest shooting 9mm I've ever handled. The trigger is a dream.

However, the P7M8 is expensive. For affordable 9mm pistols, it's hard to beat the CZ-75B. Some swear by the Glock platform. Some love the Sig. Personally, I haven't found either system to my liking.

Glock 19.

The Sigs mentioned are very good.

If price is not an issue then I will echo the comments about the HK P7M8. One of my all time favorites.

Purely personal, of course - - -

Browning Hi Power
Glock 19
S&W Model 39

I'm sure the CZ75 and descendants are nifty pistols but I never felt compelled to shoot 'em a lot.

I HAVE tried - - Honestly tried -- to like the SiG pistols but they simply don't feel good for me. Seems their barrel axis is just too high above my hand hold.

Best

Browning Highpower, Easy shoot and control. beautiful to look at. Proven since WWII and still in use. absolutely wonderful at the range

I Have Owned 3 Makes of 9MM Lug

I have owned 2 Glock 17s, 1 Browning High Power (P-35), and a Ruger (I think) model 90? That was YEARS ago. All four pistols served and functioned perfectly. None ever had a failure. Now, the Browning HP I JUST purchased two weeks ago. I have about 200 rounds through it, so I can't talk too much about it yet. With time.

For feel, the BHP. For a sleek appeal, the BHP.

For a fast draw, no releasing the safety, just a save-my-life-fast-shot--the Glock 17.

And the Ruger? Well, I sold it because I HATE--no I loathe aluminum pistols (merely a personal issue).

My friend, you have a VERY difficult decision to make! Seems to me most modern-day 9MMs are pretty darned good. Just ask, do you want US-made pistol? How much are you willing to spend? What size pistol do you want? Will it be for CCW, home defense or target? Of course, Glock has a model for ALL of those eventualities.

Wow, you're in trouble! This is going to be one difficult choice! I think you'll have to buy several. :) Good luck and let us know what you pick.

Edited to add:

Hey, what's with that nickname, "princesscrash01". How did you earn that one? :)

For sheer, unmitigated class.....the BHP.

Just nothing else feels quite soooo good.

Pure Classic: Hi Power, from FN or Browning. Low cost alternative are the Argentine FM and Hungarian FEG copies.

Classic in a non traditional chambering: Kimber 1911 in 9mm

My personal choice in 9mm: Glock 19 or 26

Other options: H&K, Sig, Ruger, Springfield XD, S&W (non-sigma), Steyr M series, FN P9, CZ, Kel-Tec, Beretta, others I know I'm forgetting; basically any reputable maker's pistols in 9mm.

There are plenty of good 9mm pistols out there. If you can, go to a range that does rentals, or ask friends if you can shoot their pistols. There are plenty of fine pistols in 9mm from a wide array of manufacturers in every size and price range. The bottom line is that the best 9mm pistol is the one that shoots & feels best in your hands, and looks best in your eyes.

I didn't see cost as an issue, so I would get an H&K USP full size. Saying I love the USP is a gross understatement.

While I have my preferences, the best 9mm is the one that fits your hand the best. Now there are certain brands I would avoid, but CZ, Walther, Beretta, HK, Sig, Springfield, Browning, Glock, Smith and Wesson, Steyr, Ruger, Magnum Research, and a few others all make quality 9mm handguns. Hold them all to see how they feel and if possible fire them all, and then make your decision.

Sig 228
HK USP
Glock 17/19

The Browning Hipower is ancient and is outclassed by the above guns. That's just the JMB lovers speaking out. I love his stuff, and he was the all-time-great. But times have changed and there are better choices (many of which incorporate a LOT of his original ideas, see above) JMB's innovation will live on forever in some form or another in modern firearms. His ideas will last to the end of firearms (when lasers or whatever take over)

Eventually, the relatively new HS2000 (Springfield XD) will be among the pistols above. (another gun that takes many of JMB's ideas, as well as the best features of the above 3 guns and combines them into 1).

The Beretta 92 is a nice gun, but I do not believe it is in the same class as the guns listed above. The military prefered the Sig, the penny pinchers prefered the Beretta.

How Could I Forget my 2 Springfield XD 9MMs?!

I don't know how I forgot those! I had two Springfield pistols also: the 4" XD-9MM and the 3" XD-9MM. Both were excellent, but the Glock had significantly higher capacity. I never did like the extension for the 3" Subcompact. It would wiggle while I tried to fire. The Subcompact (the 3") was entirely too small for my hand. However, both were exceptionally accurate and reliable.

This decision is looking tougher every day! Good luck!

Thank you for the help so far!

:D Ok well some people asked if price is an option, it is not. I will say that I have shot beretta 92 before and liked it, but it was also my friend's race gun I believe he called it, and he said there were some modifications to it. I do not know which ones. I have shot a Glock 19 (maybe a 17) before and that was also nice, but although in my opinion not the best to look at. This past weekend I shot a Taurus, and although no one has mentioned it, I loved the grip on it, it was rubber maybe? On the flip side of that, the 45 I shot this weekend was undoubtedly the most uncomfortable gun I have ever shot. I do not know who the maker was though.

And to Doc2005 my nickname "Princess Crash" evolved last year when I totaled 2 cars within 2 weeks. Both accidents involving 18 wheelers....It used to just be princess but after those 2 incidents Crash was added! ;)

Anyway, thanks for the help so far. I really appreciate it. Now I just have to go find these guns that were mentioned, so that I can go shoot them!

Oh what is the gun in the picture posted by Black Majik (Richard)?

It took alot of trial and error to finally settle on 9mm's that work for me. I shot about everything under the sun to end up with these. Reliability and accuracy are paramount to me.
