The Best 9mm for CCW

When I went shopping for my 9mm carry, the first requirement I presented to all the shops was:

1) Must go BANG every time I pull the trigger ...

... before I even got to requirement #2 they all started pulling Glocks out of the display cases.

I ended up with a G26 and am very happy with it.

ok

ok you got a good one, alittle big for pocket carry but it will go bang every time. Nice gun..

The one that you feel most comfortable with. Comfortable carrying, and comfortable shooting.

Always balance that with reliability and mechanical accuracy.

The gun has to fit you.

I'm the type of guy who likes to get as much use from anything I buy. That's why I love the Glock 26. It goes from range gun and home defense with 15 round mag and spacer to short gripped ccw gun by changing clip to standard ten rounder. I don't think you can beat that.

There is no CCW better than the Glock 19. YMMV
They are hard to beat, but shove a thin, lightweight 1911 in your pants, and YMWV:D
But they arn't for everyone, getting used to flipping a safety off on the draw, is fun work. Wished Glocks were as thin as a 1911, that would be perfect;)

P7M8 - Small, yet a full 4" barrel. It is very flat, and virtually snag proof. It also has one of the best triggers for any handgun it's size.

I like my full size autos in the cool months but my P11 fits the bill just perfect for CCW (12 round mags are nice too).

-Cheers

Well, you coulda got the compact glock 10mm, that's a model G29. THen buy barrels for it to shoot 40S&W, 357sig, and 9mmDillon. Then on top of that, get extended mags, and longer barrels with magna porting.

I have a Glock 19 and various 1911s. If you measure their thickness with a calipers or ruler, you will see that the 1911 slides are 0.90 inches thick, while the Glock 19 slide is about 1.00 inches thick. So there is one tenth of an inch difference in slide thickness, which isn't much.

In the grips, the G19 grip is about 1.10 inches thick, while a standard 1911 grip is 1.25 inches thick at the wide spot. So the Glock 19 actually has a 0.15 inch thickness advantage over the 1911 in the grips.

So considering both slide and grip width, I don't think there is much difference between a Glock 19 and a 1911. And the Glock is shorter in height (top of sights to bottom of grip) than a standard 1911, which aids concealment significantly.

Kahr

Kahr PM9 can't be beat IMO. will ride in any front pocket with ease and go bang all the time. Super trigger, looong but smooth as glass...

Lots of great advice, but I'm surprised there's not a single shout out for the XD-9 yet. I carry a Sub Compact and love it. Never had a FTF, even with hand-loads and plenty of gun-show-grade target ammo... it's around the right price, eats anything and conceals easily IWB or OWB with an over shirt or vest. If not the XD I mostly carry a S&W 638... if that says anything about me or my taste in CCW's. Happy Shopping!

Actually, a 1911 slide is .925" and a Glock 19 slide is 1.0135" so it's less than a tenth of an inch that seems like a mile. :)

Well, in fact the grip of a Glock 19 is 1.1930" and that of a standard 1911 is 1.2560" making the 1911 wider at the bottom but narrower at the top, a combination that seems to suit the natural bent of a majority of comparing shooters to a T.

While the Glock 19 is one of my all time favorite pistols, and is my main go-to when there's a mysterious noise to investigate, I do love my 1911's on the firing line.

The Glock is just so damned PRACTICAL!

and

and they just seem to go bang every time.

I just got my G19 back from accurate-Iron.com and he did a complete work over on it forme, Dawson adjustable fiber optic sites, which by the way are totally awsome. a complte action job, which again is totally awsome, a slide melt and grip reduction with complete stippling, with magazine cut outs, and slide refinish in titanium with silver toning partially done to it. And Mag-na-ported by mag na port Inc. shoots like a 22..

I thought my David Bowie Smith M & P 9 was untouchable for accuracy, this G19 is just as good and to me feels even better in hand. Super job from Accurate Iron and a nice thank you to Glock for such a fine gun..

Kahr pm9 = single stack = .90 inches thick
Glocks 19 = double stack = 1.18 inches thick

For concealed carry, the Kahr is much easier to carry comfortably. . .

don't get me wrong, I love the G22, It's my home defense choice. But for me, the 19 (or 26) is just too wide.
