The Best 9mm for CCW

This guy is either joking, or needs genital implants.
The 9 is just fine. Load it up with modern, expanding ammo and forget what the guys with little wee wee's tell you.

Why would I want a sex change operation?:eek::D

I have lost track of how many 9mm pistols I have, but the one that gets carried is the Kel-Tec PF9 at 15 ounces loaded.

The last few times I've gone to the range, I have brought my Taurus PT-111 MilPro and my Sig 229.

I shoot the MilPro the most, and it is quickly becoming the favorite of my pistol collection.

I've heard bad things about older Millenium (non-Pro) models, but can't complain about my latest gen MilPro.

Cost me $319, I think?

Under $400, regardless.

GLOCK 26

fits, pocket, fanny pack, and a bunch of holsters

spare parts are cheap and plentiful

you can do all repairs by yourself

reliable

get some full cap model 17 & 19 magazines for carry and range use.

as a matter of fact buy 2 26's.

be safe.

Perhaps a little bit bigger, but still a great carry option is the Sig P 228. In my opinion it's a great all around 9mm. You can find them used in the $450 - $500 range. Though I've been thinking about a Kahr CW9 lately as well... and it seems to be one of the best values (and a lot smaller then the p228) going right now.

I've never been a Glock fan and reluctantly tried one at the insistence of a friend. In my first range session with a G26 I was pleasantly surprised by the overall shootability of Glock's sub-compact 9mm. I subsequently bought my own G26 and added Meprolite night sights. The G26 has become one of my favorite concealed carry handguns. In addition to shooting performance and reliability, I like the fact that the G26 accepts the G19/G17 magazines resulting in amazing capacity for such a compact handgun.

I love my M&P 9C. I've often said I can't imagine how good a gun would have to be to make me switch.

Another +1 for the Sig P6. I carry mine all the time, and you simply can't beat the price for a great gun.

I'm not a Glockthumper, but I love my G19. While it's probably a little bit out of the price range (mine was $519???) it conceals pretty well on me (6' 190lbs). I don't have a pistol that fits my hand better than my 3rd Gen G19, but that's just me.

I had a Springfield XD9sc for a while and really liked it. I would highly recommend it.

There is no absolute answer to your question.

You need to determine what's best for you.

Try the "H&K P7" , slim no levers to poke or dig into your side or clothes. It is very slick coming out of the holster or waist band. The squeeze lever makes for a firm grip. I've never had a jam or problem.

A lot of people......

.........wouldn't like it but my 9 is a CZ75 Compact. It has a steel frame which makes it heavier, but that doesn't bother me. I like steel framed handguns and sold off any polymers and alloys that I had. Heck, that pistol is a lot lighter than my toolbelt so it doesn't bother me any. And the heavier pistol absorbs the recoil and puts me back on target faster. I was sold on CZs with my CZ83 in .380. Not super expensive and reliable.

If it was Carry weapon, I would go with some of the ones mentioned earlier.

But for CONCEAL carry. There's only one.

Rohrbaugh R9S

i think im gonna go with the pps probably its slim and has great ergonomics
,what do you guys think?

Go for it!

The reason I carry a 1911, is with slim grips, aluminum frame, it just dissapears. The width makes all the difference. And I carry a 45 because I need a genital implant:D:rolleyes:

I think that it is a great decision. If it feels good in your hands and you think you can conceal it, there is a good chance it will work well for you. If you need some holster ideas, I have these 2 on order. Should be getting them both in about 3 weeks.

K&D Dakota Defender (The PPS isn't listed on the drop down list for some reason, but they do make it)

My winter carry is a Glock 19 and I have LOTS of choices at home (compulsive gun consumer).

I mean, I have two Colt 9mm Commanders, a S&W 469 (compact 12 rnd sa/da decock), both Keltec 9's, a BHP, two Star Model B's, a CZ 75, and even a Norinco 213 but if I chose the one that I KNOW will fire, that needs the least babysitting, and doesn't need worrying about finish I grab the Glock.

Although I know there isn't a big difference in size between a G19 and a G26 I admit to being on the veerge of adding a G26 because the G19 is so good.

Those Walther PPS's have been having glitches - read up on it before you finalize.

(THANK goodness for this convert!! I was tired of arguing about your insistence that your paltry .380 was sufficient. :) )

BTW, I do agree that the used Smith & Wesson pistols are sleepers. They are amazingly, boringly reliable and with many models you can decock them. It's really a load off of your mind to be able to decock and leave the safety off when carrying. The pistol won't fire yet it's ready to go with the double action pull first shot. Actually more sure not to fire than any of the striker guns. If I didn't have the Glock I'd say that the fat little 469 is my go-to carry gun.

Anyone who thinks the 9mm is a less effective round than the .45 or .40 simply doesn't know any better.

A hot 9mm JHP will pentrate deeper than a .40 or .45 and will expand more often. When a .45 JHP expands, it expands more than even the best 9mm but due to less velocity, it may not always expand.

If I were shooting a guy wearing a t-shirt at 10 yards, and only had one shot, I would use a .45acp JHP. For the real world, I carry a 9mm loaded with JHPs. The reason is, a 9mm will penetrate better meaning it will be more apt to go though a thick leather jacket, car door, etc. and still do some damage on the other side. Even with JHPs, a 9mm penetrates well.

As for best CCW pistol. I find that even compact guns like my S&W 3913, Kahr K-9 and G-26 don't get carried as much as my more compact guns like my Kel-Tec P3-AT and S&W M-38 snub nose.

Short of a Rohrbaugh, the most concealable 9mm is the Kahr PM9. After that comes the keltec, walther pps, and a few others.

So, listed in order of descending concealability:

1) rohrbaugh
2) kahr PM9
3) walther PPS, keltec PF-9
4) glock, S&W, sig, and others.

I like the H&K P7 but not at the price they are going for. There is another that has a similar gas system. It's called a truevelo ADP. I recently acquired one. I really like it. It's a double stack mag and not a concealable as a kahr or PPS though.

Here is what i have tried in 9mm for concealment:

1) Kahr PM9= hated the gun with a passion. It always jammed despite over a 500-800rounds. Very finicky.

2) Sig 239=like it
3) Walther PPS=Really like it
4) HK P7M8= loved it except a a couple of occasions, i noticed after the draw that my magzazine was sticking out 1/4". It was obvious that with the US mag release somehow i was catching it in the IWB holster. Not good during a real defense situation.

5) HK P7PSP= I absolutely love this gun. Anybody on this thread that has recommended the P7 line of handguns know what they are talking about. It balances so well on an IWB holster, comes out slick, 150% reliable, considered to be one of if not the most accurate 9mm ever produced, almost impossible for accidental discharge, what else can one ask for?
