Best 9mm?

Don't forget the Walther P99

The one 9mm grossly overlooked is the Walther P99. With the convertible grip, it will fit almost any hand. High capacity Magazines are available. Light weight in construction, reliable and durable. I call it a Glock on steroids!

Second choice for smaller hands would be the Sig 228. Excellent firearm! My wife loves hers...

Considering your over the road record. Steel, used , inexpensive.`

Just kiding.
Sounds like this will be a range gun.
Buy a used, inexpensive gun (3-500$) that fits your hand. You will find that If you like shooting, just one isn't enough.:)

I have owned a bunch o' 9mms

and have sold them all.

All but two, that is...

My Kahr PM9 will be with me until someone makes a better carry-nine.

My HK P7 M13 will be with me as long as I draw breath.

YMMV, and I would be surprised if it didn't :)

There are a lot of good 9mms out there -- a whole lot. I've shot many 9mms that I would be happy with, but you asked about the BEST one.

To tell you the truth, the best gun for you is probably going to be different than the best gun for the rest of us. Only you can decide which gun is best for you and your purpose.

I guess this is a good time to tell you my "story." When I was 17, I decided that I couldn't stand it anymore -- I wanted a pistol. My Dad had a Taurus PT92 (Beretta 92FS clone), and I loved it. I decided that I wanted a Beretta .40, and my Dad said that if I saved the money, he'd buy it, and when I was old enough, it would be mine.
I saved for a long, long, LONG time -- during which, I took every chance I could get to handle lots and lots of pistols. I was in a gun shop/pawn, when I was fondling Beretta and Taurus 92s. On the bottom shelf, I happened to spy a Browning Hi Power in 9mm. This was the first time that I'd ever seen one in person, and I was surprised to see how small it was; I had always imagined that it would be the size of a 1911 Gov't Model.
The guy at the counter pulled it out for me, and when my hand and the gun met, it was a near-religious experience. Picture it something like this, except it was a gun, and I looked older: :p

I had totally forgotten about the Beretta that I wanted. I had to have a BHP. I finally got enough money when I was 19, and I must have bought one that was pregnant, because more have followed. I have a feeling that the litter isn't yet done being born, either. :D

All I can do, beyond urging you to try the same selection process, is tell you of my experiences.
I am head-over-heels for the Browning HP. I currently have 3 of them, and want more.

I have also shot several CZs, and they are excellent. I want Sigs, Springfield XDs, Kahrs, etc... but I'm just too hooked to think of anything else right now.

Only you can choose. :)

I had a tough time deciding too, that's why I have:
P7M8, BHP, 2 Italian Beretta 92fs', USP & USPc 9 and a Glock 19

1. Glock 19
2. Glock 17
3. Sig 228

Can't beat the G19 for reliability, size, capacity, concealability, and light weight. IMO, it's the best all-around choice.....with the G17 a close second.

"Best" is very subjective and open to interpretation.

Best all-around for CCW, range work and relative cost is the Glock 19.

The Holy Trinity of 9mm are (in no particular order):

Sig P210
S&W PC 952
HK P7M8

The Sig X5 is nice but doesn't have the class and aura of these other 3.

Oh what is the gun in the picture posted by Black Majik (Richard)?

If I'm not mistaken, that's Richard's SIG P226 (his particular one is made in Germany). It's a very nice pistol, and it is a 9mm. As far as your seach for the "best 9mm" you have some very good suggestions already. Try as many of those as you can to see what fits you best.

I would go with the 9mm pistol that set the standard all others follow: The P-35, otherwise known as the Browning Hi-Power.

There are others worthy, but where ever you go in the world you will encounter a Browning Hi-Power on someones hip who is serious about what they carry.

Ok so tomorrow I will be shooting a Sig 226 I will let ya all know what I think! Again thanks for all of the help and opinions. I appreciate it!;)

Princesscrash, Good choice with the P226. Sorry I didn't get to you earlier but yes, the picture of mine is a German P226. It was my first 9mm, and I'll always keep it.

If for some reason you find the grips to be a little thick since it is a double stacked gun, try the P225, which is a single stack (slimmer) 9mm.

Hope you find one that fits you. Good luck.

Best is subjective but...

four staple 9mm's are:
1. CZ 75B - all steel, allows for SA or DA carry
2. Browning HP - all steel, a customizable classic with a near cult following
3. SIG P226 - alloy framed, it is the contemporary 9mm that military, LEO and security professionals consider as the ideal or at the very least a standard for comparison
4. Glock 17 - polymer framed, near cult following, standard for comparison, the polymer 'classic,' if one exists.

There are others that might try and make it on the list but few have the history or reputation to qualify.

The two best values in 9mm are:
1. CZ 75B - Field, SD, or HD
2. S&W 952 - Target

Best wishes on your search. FWIW and respectfully submitted.

Just a little update...

I shot the Sig P226 today......and I loved it!! But believe me I will be tryin to get my hands on the other guns mentioned. The P226 seemed a little big in my hand, but not too uncomfortable. I was told it was bigger because it is double stacked, but nevertheless I loved the way it shot! Honestly if the other guns that ya all mentioned shoot this nice, I will not be able to choose just one...!:D

Oh yeah and that Browning High Power is one sexy looking gun in my opinion! (I hope I am allowed to say that)
