Best bear gun?

Went thur that at choice about 10 yrs back. Was fly fishing a lot in Montana ,Colorado and Wyoming and wanted a new toy. Wound up with a Taurus tracker .44 mag. 5 shot in a chest holster, carried a lot shot a little. If I had a redo think now I would just set up a Glock 30 for .45 super and a 13 rd magazine and call it good. Before the Taurus carried a Ruger .357 security six with 200 grain hardcast but my wife claimed it.

I have lived and hiked in the PNW for over 30 years. Ran into black bears as well as momma bear and her cubs. But they hsve always tried to get away as soon as they could. I feel comfortable with my .357. And even more so with my 329PD .44 mag. Getting ready to switch to a 10mm hi cap such as a Glock 20 just cause I want more rounds and a change of pace. And the Surius patrol has choose them to use against polar bears. For most people I usually recommend bear spray as I have seen a couple studies that show it to be a better bear deterrent then a gun.

A Glock 20 for me as well. I'm into wildlife photography so I can get into some high risk situations yet I don't want to pack a 60 oz weapon in addition to my camera gear.

I was reading an article that listed feral dogs as another potential North American species one might need to defend against. I hadn't heard of any instances of feral dog fatalities in the US. In my search for some examples, I found an article where a 52 yr old woman in Oklahoma was killed by a pack of 7 Dachshunds: https://kfor.com/2018/07/03/no-charges-to-be-filed-after-oklahoma-woman-killed-by-pack-of-dogs/

Maybe I need to start a new thread about what's the best dachshund gun?
