The Ruger P95 is one of the heaviest polymers you'll find. They're great pistols, but I sold mine so I could get a CZ75. If I was looking for something on the cheap I'd get a Witness 9mm.
Actually, the Ruger P95 is not heavy when compared to similar DA/SA hammer-fired weapons, especially the Witness pistols....

Ruger P95 = 27 oz.

Witness 9mm Polymer = 30 oz.
Witness 9mm Polymer Compact = 27 oz.
Witness steel 9mm = 33 oz.
Witness steel 9mm Compact = 30 oz.

Sig SP2022 = 30.20 oz.
Sig P226 = 34 oz.
Sig P229 = 32 oz.

HK P30 V3 = 26.08 oz.

CZ 75 D PCR = 27.20 oz.
CZ P01 = 28.80 oz.
CZ 75 SP-01 Phantom = 28.8 oz.
CZ 75B = 35.2 oz.
CZ 75 Compact = 32 oz.
CZ 75 SP-01 = 41.6 oz.

Beretta 90two F = 32.5 oz.
Beretta 92FS = 33.3 oz.
Beretta M9A1 = 33.9 oz.

Stoeger Cougar 9mm = 32.6 oz.

If S&W is still offering the rebate, you should be able to get an M&P9 for around $400. Haven't heard an unkind word said about the things. May as well pony up a few extra dollars and get a "known quantity" - JMHO...

If I recall correctly, didn't the M&P series have some problems with dropping the magazines at inopportune times?

It's kinda hard to beat your CZ75. I'd save a few extra pennies and get it a big brother. After a year of owning and shooting a CZ SP-01 Phantom I can unqualifiedly recommend that gun to anyone. I'm not sure how much they are going for used, but I'd still consider it.

I'd also stongly consider just about any 2nd or 3rd Gen Smith, and definitely a Walther P1. Used Beretta 92 can also be had around the OP's price range.

Was just on Budd's yesterday and they have police trade-in S&W99's for $289 I think it was....and while I've never shot one I've carried a P99 for 10 years and they are essentially the same.
