Best pistol under $400?

Summitgunbroker.com has police trade in Glock 22's for as low as $350.:) Some finish wear from holster carry, but shot very little. A proven performer.

Well, $400 today isn't the same as it was two years ago when this thread was started.

If I had to buy a pistol today and I only had $400 to spend, I'd get a Ruger P95 and 250 rounds of 9mm practice ammo.

Rock Island Armory 1911 .45 would be a good choice. While a .40 S&W IS an upgrade in power, if you're already at the 9mm point, move to a .45

My brother-in-law bought a Ruger P-90 (or something like that) in .45 and loves it. I think he paid around $300 brand new

If it was me I would get the Ruger P90. Its a excellent practical pistol.

Many years ago I bought a Ruger P90 DC more or less develop and test 45 ACP handloads loads on. Mostly because the are supposed to be strong and the price was cheap. In case something happened to it during load development. Now it is not the best looking gun out there by any stretch. But after many thousands of rounds I have zero issues with it.

My P90 is also one of the most accurate 45 ACPs I have ever fired. Its almost like Ruger sprinkled pixie dust on this unit when they built it. I'm almost embarrassed to say my P90 will even out shoot one of my all time favorites a West German Sig P220 45. I've owned more than a few 45 with some 45 ACPs costing over a grand. But I've come to respect the P90.

A friend of mine sold every gun but his P90 (serious financial issues). I asked him if he'd sell me the P90, I knew he's maybe put 100 rounds through it. He screamed "Hell No!!!"
We went shooting, traded off, he had my G30SF, I had his P90. AWESOME GUN!!! Handles great, very accurate. I will definitely be picking up a P90 sometime. Great value for the money.

I picked up a brand new Ruger SR9 from a local shop Friday for $399 tax included. 17+1 capacity, slim grip, good (adjustable) sights, ambidextrous mag release & safety for us lefties... Great gun.

If I was limited to $400, I'd buy something used. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever bought a brand new gun. I did buy a Norinco 54-1 (their commercial realease version of the 7.62 TT33) that was unfired in the box, but it was 15 or more years old when I bought it.

Used guns are a good thing. The trade-off is that the buyer has to be a bit more of an informed consumer.

On another note, New Armscor Rock Island Armory .45s can be gotten for around $400 or so. My friend has one of their .38 revolvers and it's a solid gun. I know nothing about the quality of their .45s, though.

S&W 3rd gens

Top dollar guns that are selling really cheap right now. I got mine for $250 and it can play with the boys that cost 10 times that.:D

I went with a RIA Tactical for under 400.$ It's in the mail, so I will let you know if I made the right choice. But lifetime warranty and good customer service, (what Ive heard), can't go too far wrong.Plus the price.
