Big bore fighting revolvers - a picture thread

No picture but to me the thought of a semi auto round in a revolver was ridiculous..........until I picked up a Smith 625.......and SAW THE LIGHT. What a crazy fun gun and dropping those moonclipped fat .45s in is soooo easy.

So ummmm yeah......like my .45ACP big bore revolver.

It takes only a few drinks before I am willing to argue that chambering the .45 ACP in an auto was a mistake in the first place!

Hmmm... fixed sights, big bore....

Early 90's built Taurus M431 44 Special, 3" barrel, rounded butt, shaved grips. I have another hammer, which I mean to bob, to make it DAO.

I wouldn't feel under-armed with it.

2 cylinders, 10 yards, as fast as I could get the sights back on target. That's a 3" sticker.
Target 01,200gr 5.5promo (Small).jpeg

All that, and it's relatively easy to conceal. At least, in cooler weather. I regularly carry it in the colder months here in Okra-homa.

Gotta love .45 out of a revolver....and you don't even need moonclips to shoot the 625, but it sure is easier.
This one is a keeper. Wish I had kept the 5" 625.

Why not a Redhawk in .45 Colt/.45 Automatic ?
Why not?

I have one, but it is better suited for woods carry in a chest rig. However, it will do the job as well as any other big bore for defense if needed, even though it is a bit large for the task at hand.

I have been known to carry either a .45 ACP N-Frame or .45 Colt Blackhawk on my person from time to time, and I have never felt undergunned.

I set out to build the Ultimate big bore fighting revolver 30 years ago . I had a decent US postal service 1917 Colt New Service .45 acp and sent it to Cylinder and slide after using it for about five years and "only if" thinking because it ran so nice on steel plates and the bowling pin rage. Cylinder & Slide gave it a complete rebuild and blueprinting . They have a 10 pound DA and a 2.5 pound SA and the pull thru is amazing ly smooth, like a big Python. They replaced the barrel with a 4" Douglas Air gauged heavy barrel with a little faster than normal twist (1-14" ) for .45 acp at my request. They talked me into a custom shroud for the ejector rod and crane to lock into ball detents. They fabricated the gold flat topped bead front sight and welded and set the rear sight notch to put 230 grain .45 acp mill spec ball to be dead on at 25 yards . They then sent the pistol to Colt's custom shop engraver who did minimal Bank Note engraving and polished gun for a Royal Blue finish . Then Roy Fish Paw got the gun before I got it back and he fitted to my hand drawing 4xxx exhibition French walnut grips that fit seemlessly and points like my thoughts. I fitted up this French case and it is a wonderful joy to shoot the moon with my cast 250 grain Keith hollow points at 900 fps +_ into an inch at 25 yards sand bagged . It is retired now allways faith ful. I have another (few) .45 New Service Colts and one is a super smooth old reblued 1917 that Armand Swenson put some S&W adjustable sights on and tuned the action . That is not quite as accurate as the C&S Ultimate Pin revolver , but I carry it around in a full flap Lawrence holster banging around remote Oregon :)

Beautiful! And what a neat story!

I don't intend to fight anybody with it, but I suspect the big Webleys were considered "fighting revolvers" a hundred or so years ago;)

I think the Webley is absolutely a fighting revolver in any age.

After seeing these beautiful, big bore revolvers ...
Im hesitate to post mine .. they are for self defense carry ... both Charters .. both small and lightweight, very carry-able , concealable .. the Boomer weighs 16oz .. I pocket carry the Boomer , its great for jacket or coat pocket carry ,,, The fodder I carry is Federal 200gr LSWCHP in both of them ...

Well, I doubt anyone gets them engraved and ivoried for use as a BBQ gun, but as a deadly serious fighting revolver I think the Charter guns may have no equal these days.

You got some really nice shooters there, but forgive me I want to know about the knife pictured. Is than a Marbles ? I recently got a very similar but smaller one and can find no information about that handle style ! I love it ! Do you think you could tell me what the writing on the blade says ? Or a picture of the stamping ? Pretty please :)

Something like the Charter Arms Bulldog Classic would be my first thought of "big bore fighting wheelgun.

Made for me by Buffalo Waller for my long ago SASS days. Don't know if he's still in business.
Right hand elk antler, buffalo horn, and brass. Used it dressing deer. A bit too big, but had to do it.
I don't know the steel, but it holds an edge. Pic of only stamping.

Here’s an old timey fighting pistol from back in the day:

4” Smith & Wesson 3rd Model Hand Ejector (Model of 1926) in 44 special

It’s been refinished at least once and under the period incorrect PC Magnas there appears to be remnants of its original Nickel Finish (coulda been bumper shop chrome at some point) but for less than $300 I couldn’t pass it up.

Not a screaming deal but I have a personal rule that says I must buy ever shootable N frame I find prices below 400 bucks.

Thank you very much ! It follows the design of the 1960s Marbles I got a couple months ago , but larger. I am currently wearing it on the off side with a 10 cartridge .38 belt slide for my little Ruger Vaquero . It justs looks good with a SSA type gun as you must have discovered for yourself .
