Here’s an old timey fighting pistol from back in the day:

4” Smith & Wesson 3rd Model Hand Ejector (Model of 1926) in 44 special

It’s been refinished at least once and under the period incorrect PC Magnas there appears to be remnants of its original Nickel Finish (coulda been bumper shop chrome at some point) but for less than $300 I couldn’t pass it up.

Not a screaming deal but I have a personal rule that says I must buy ever shootable N frame I find prices below 400 bucks.

A third model hand ejector for under four hundred? I'd call buying that a matter of religious principle. If you're going to shoot it much, you want the larger grips. The originals will cause the gun to rust because even with a lightly loaded .44 Specials you'll end up bleeding. I suspect the original tiny N-frame stocks did more than anything to give the custom grip making business a boost.

That is exactly the sort of gun I have been searching for. Prices for original condition guns have gotten so high that I don't see the value in them. Refinished guns in good working order, though...

You can have the upper .44 Spl. 5" second Model made in the early 30s and excellent shape for $600 with a set of Diamond Magna istead of the stag grips. with the stag grips $700 , with the case and beautiful I frame 3" .32Long hand ejector and case with knife (presentation S&W with medallion ) all for $1200 + shipping on each or all. Pm me , end your search :) note mine has the rare special order lanyard swivel. The gun is beautiful ! The .44 MAY be reblued as it is too nice for age, but I can't be sure. the .32 is original.

A big part of the problem, Gordon, is that I cannot legally buy that gun in California. It is not on our roster of "safe" handguns. A smaller part of the problem is that the end of the world has wrecked me, financially. In all honesty, I could find a way around the latter problem, if the former wasn't such an issue.

You have my sympathies....for both of your problems.

WRONG, the gun is in California , I didn't move it to Oregon and Used prior Ca. Reistered guns can DEROS to Ca. I can still send any Ca. gun out to states where those states allow and have been doing so a couple years no problem The "safe Roster " is only for NEW gun sales or out of state sales into Ca. so get your $ ready. I can bring the gun to my old favorite zFFL in Monterey , he could ship it to your FFL in Ca and the deal is done. i hate to let thos beautiful pieces go, Ive had them more than 35 years and they were not shot much during that time. I will be putting them on GB in July. I am in Oregon right now but returning for a few weeks in July.

Not true the list only appies to New Guns and those other pistols coming from outside Ca. Those pistols are previously registered (long ago ) in Ca. and are still in Ca. just sayin..
. And laws can be changed, the reson we have such laws is the monkeying with demographics to socially engineer the vote.

I carried this Model 58 while I was a LEO. We got into a few serious social encounters. We're still here.

This was a 1916 vintage .455 MK II HE.. When I got it, it had a bulged barrel. I replaced it with an new Brazilian 45 ACP barrel chopped and re-sighted, a post war 45 ACP cylinder bored out to 45 Colt, and had it parkerized. It shoots 45ACP in moon clips, 45 Auto Rim, 45 Colt, and 45 Win Mag brass LOADED TO OLD COLT VELOCITIES in moon clips.

I still carry it once in a while. Surprising how light it is with all of them big holes in it..

Well now that is interesting. I had assumed the gun was with you in Oregon. Let me have a hard think about whether I should be spending money right now and I will let you know.

My S&W Model 58 was/is a “problem child,” is it shoots too low, and the front sight had too little left metal for me to want to file it further. It was good enough, however, for me to use it to patrol the mean streets of Houston with it, from late 1985, until I switched to a 1911 during or about 1990. It was starting to become too loose, anyway, so is retired to a safe. Before it patrolled Houston streets, it was a San Antonio PD duty gun. (Houston PD officers buy our own duty firearms, within guidelines.)

Sorry, no photos. I was trained to take quite good photos, for evidentiary purposes, but have no earthly idea what a “URL” has to do with digital images.

5" .44 special gp100

7.5" .44 mag SBH

Threads like this remind me I need to get a 44 special 4 inch or so barrelled revolver soon.

Although I may do a 44mag tracker instead and just load it up with 44spec. I'm a big fan of my wife's 357 model.
