What options are out there for a lever gun with more ft lbs and same, if not bigger, caliber than the .45-70?
.450 Marlin is at the top of the list right now.

The 45-70 with the hotter hand loads can slightly exceed 450 Marlin. The 450 Marlin was developed to give factory loads about equal to the hot 45-70 hand loads. The case is simply a 45-70 case modified so it can't be loaded in an older weak 45-70 rifle.

There are a few custom rifles in 500 S&W. Not exactly sure they exceed hot 45-70 or not, but they offer a larger caliber.

My brother has a Browning Model 71 that has been rebarreled to .50 Alaskan. Way more power and way more and recoil than my .45-70 1895G Guide Gun.

Big Horn Armory chambers their Model 89 in the .500 S&W Magnum.

450 is a modified belted magnum case. The belt is thicker so the case will not chamber in a smaller caliber magnum chamber.

The internal capacity of the 450 Marlin is the same as the 45-70. The recipes interchange, if the rifle can handle them.

The 50s are the only semi factory rifle that really outshine the 45-70. They hit harder but may have a bit more trajectory.

For a flatter shooter with a lot of power, the 405 WCF is a champion.

That's some truly beautiful color case hardening you've got there! Thanks for sharing.

Turnbull customs can build you a Winchester '86 in .45/90

They and others can rebarrel the Browning BLR to .458winmag, and possibly to .458Lott.
How much more do you "need" ???

My .45/70 with full case of IMR3031 or 4064 under a heat-treated 405gr FNGC is more than enough for anything on earth.

I agree with goose, I can load 45-70 hotter than I enjoy shooting out of my marlin.

If "more power" is on my mind, I'd rather shoot my 50 BMG more power and less recoil.
