Bought Primers today $5.50 ~ +\- $0.20 tax

Markie’s paying close to 10% tax but left it off his calculation. That skews the comparison. If you are not paying taxes on those items, that’s terrific but, it doesn’t change the statement: taxes are part of the price. In YOUR case, $0 but, that’s not everywhere. And definitely not where Markie-Mark got his. Right?
 
Same price at the Sportsmans here in NM. Only they were out of all the CCI stuff as of yesterday. I think I got close to 800 CCI mixed spp, srp,and mlp over the past 2 weeks. They still had the Remington1 1/2's and the fiochi's which come 150 to a box for 8.25. Been grabbing 2 about every other day and I have now 900 of those now, and got a "free" box as well.The clerk was so trying to get me get one of their credit cards she only scanned 1 box today. Haha.

Thing is you pay 60+ for a brick, then what 30+ for hazmat? I've gotten almost 2k in primers in the past 2 weeks, and spent around 100. The truck came today and i didnt see any new primers, so yeah I'm going to keep getting the fiochis until they are gone.

I have been through several component shortages the past 30 years and after the "Great Shortage" of 2013, I thought we never see $20/K primers and $20/500 shipped 22LR.

Then in 2017, I stocked up on $20/K S&B primers and $27/K Winchester primers along with in 2019 $14-$16/500 shipped/retail 22LR - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...-than-15-20-500-shipped.853059/#post-11166197

With current shortage, many claimed "post-pandemic" inflation/supply chain issues and we should stock up at $35/K for 22LR but I posted that I didn't see price bottoming trend at $35/K and would wait for better indicators to their laughter. Regards to primers, in addition to normal consumer supply/demand dictate that applies to 22LR, small arms ammunition used by military has an added factor that could influence primer supply/demand and there's been a war in Ukraine that NATO/US/EU countries have been supplying (And 9mm NATO uses SP primer ;)).

As war in Ukraine winds down, I anticipate demand side decreasing with perhaps supply side having been increased in recent decade to make primer prices more competitive to fall.

How low? Can't tell but definitely below $80/K we have been paying.

... To me, we have entered the period of surplus again and popular reloading components are obtainable again with lower prices. I have a monthly budget set aside for reloading/shooting and tax refund is split between wife and I for our hobbies. The money set aside is used when I see good sales come up on reloading components and shooting items.

For me, whether another component shortage will occur is irrelevant as I am stocking up for my upcoming retirement. I wish I had bought more primers when Powder Valley was selling Wolf primers for $14/1000. I wish I had bought more Promo when they were $87/8 lbs.

Well, I could wish all I want but this is 2017.

Cabela's recently sold S&B primers for $19.99/1000 with $5 shipping and $20 HazMat.

8 lbs of Promo is $112-$113 from Recob's Target Shop and Powder Valley everyday.

... I have a feeling 10-20 years from now, we'll be posting on THR, "Remember when primers were $19.99 and Promo was $112?​

And it's only been 6 years since that post. :)

I’m stocking up on .22 LR at Walmart, a few each month. $22/325. .22 and prime always hets eaten up during a panic
 
Going into the .22 or shortage every time I saw a sale I bought 1,000 rounds. I ended up with a lot of .22 ammo and even now I have more .22s that I can probably shoot. I wasn't buying 10,000+ at a time or cleaning out the store, just buying every chance I had. It worked out well for me.

As for components, I was stocked up well before this prolonged shortage started. Unfortunately I did run short on .224" projectiles but I found a way to work it out. My supplies on all components are good but if prices do come down I will add to the stocks a little at a time so I can shoot during the next shortage.

I stocked up fairly well. Didn’t get a chance to go whole hog on standard small pistol primers or large magnum pistol primers but I also never run out. I was given a lot by friends and neighbors, family too, and then it turned out what I was missing came back quickly so I got lucky but, not everyone who reloads needs more than a brick of one or two types and not everyone who needs a few bricks a month can afford them at much higher prices. So let’s try to help out the people we can when we can.

Yeah, I lent out some primers and powder to very good friends. I'm starting to get some back now. It wasn't a lot, 4k or 5k primers and 3 lbs of powder. (it was hard to part with any W231 lol)
Isn't that what good friends do for each other?
