Brady bunch say you probably smoke crack

I think it's best to remind as many people as possible that, whether their data is accurate aside, correlation does not imply causation. :banghead:

I'm under 40, but I sometimes feel like an old guy complaining about the direction the world is heading. Remind me: why did we stop teaching Latin and Rhetoric in public schools? America could use a little familiarity with the basic logical arguments/fallacies at the very least.

“Our schools should be sanctuaries, not armed camps,” said Paul Helmke, President of the Brady Center. “Institutions of higher education already have chosen policies either banning or tightly controlling guns on campus. That is as it should be. These institutions are responsible for the safety of their campuses and must continue to have the right to control firearms. After the massacre at Virginia Tech, we should make it harder, not easier, for dangerous people to get guns, and harder to acquire the high-capacity firepower wielded by the Virginia Tech shooter.”

none of that made any logical sense

Argh. I just read through their "report," and my brain hurts from all the insane contradictions. The basic gist of it is that schools are so safe that nobody needs a gun there and at the same time they're so dangerous that guns need to be banned or something. Which is it?!

Later on, they try to "prove" that the NRA is lying about people with CCWs being law-abiding by listing every crime committed by them in the last four or five years. Of their list of only a few dozen (which is a statistical grain of sand in a galaxy..), nearly a third are police, judges, and politicians. But, err, aren't they the only ones the Bradys think should have guns? Then a bunch are accidents (not crimes), and several were only suspects of something.

Can we sue them for libel and slander now?
Why would anyone sue them for libel or slander when
they hang themselves with their own ignorance
in much more flamboyant fashion?

The worst part is when you leave a little Unique in your crack pipe at the reloading bench.

Man that sucker flames up in a hurry!

Folks, the good news in this is that this type of intelligence is our enemy. We should feel good that the only arguments they have left are ones like this.

Hah, its not even about skewing numbers from the CDC, NIJ, DOJ, or FBI:UCR anymore. They've resorted to good old-fashioned "make stuff up"ery

So they make stuff up and called it a "report" now? I think the good thing is that the only people who believe these reports are already way over the left side of the cliff anyway.
binge drink, need a drink first thing in the morning, use cocaine or crack, be arrested for a DUI, vandalize property, and get in trouble with the police.
Wow. The only drink I need first thing in the morning is my coffee. Sounds like I'm missing out on the rest of the gun-owning shenanigans.

You mean you guys don't smoke crack?

I know that when I get up I load all my guns with hi capacity ammunition feeding devices. Then smoke some crack, beat my wife and kids (I don't have kids so I have to go find some children outside to threaten with my gun and beat) then head back home chug down some grain alcohol and drive to work.

My wife will also smoke some crack, slam back a few shots, wave around hi-cap mags because they are inherently so dangerous and then head off to her graduate studies classes.

Every gun owner I know does this, even the little old ladies from church with their pocket pistols who are taking computer classes. Sadly though living on a fixed income makes crack hard for them to get but they persevere.

It is true many times when a kid turns 12 or older and gets their first 22 they are also introduced into the world of crack and alcohol. It is by far the best way to practice gun safety. So that by the time they hit college they are total lushes and crack heads. Armed to the teeth with 22s with huge magazines that can fire off powerful round after round

Now if you excuse me I have to go put pistol grips, and hi capacity magazines on my bolt action rifles to make them MORE deadly.

I prefer Meth.

It makes me all twichy and angry. Perfect for setting the mood for the mindless carnage that my guns force me to do.

:)

Thanks to Paul Helmke, I now KNOW why I want to do all those horrible, self destructive, things! I have guns! :)
It never ceases to amaze me that some of these people actually seem to believe in what they're doing, yet they still make up all this stuff...

gun owners are more likely than other students to binge drink, need a drink first thing in the morning, use cocaine or crack, be arrested for a DUI, vandalize property, and get in trouble with the police.

Dang! I must not be a gun owner then :(

Oh wait, I've been harassed by the police, never in trouble, a case of mistaken identity of my car. Does that count?

"Drugs and alcohol. Binge drinking is highest among 18-24 olds, and college gun owners are more likely than other students to binge drink, need a drink first thing in the morning, use cocaine or crack, be arrested for a DUI, vandalize property, and get in trouble with the police."

Unbelievable. And you can't even respond to it. NOW, I need a drink.

It's just so hard to both believe and accept that there is nothing we can do about the out right lies that the Brady's spit out. I do believe that people are starting to see thru their Bulls...t or at least I sure hope so.

How to lie with statitstics 101. Hate to take the side of evil today but they may be right in the usual twisted way.

All the things they mention happen at near double (or more) the rate in men than women. Who owns guns a 3X the rate of women? Men. So compared to the whole population of students there may appear to be a correlation. Maybe. But I doubt it.

Now I'm fed up!!!

I've taken everything these whackjobs have thrown at us up until this. Can these people actually be serious. How can you release that list without "drunken spousal abuse"? That's like the calling card of all gun owners, isn't it?
