Heidi Yewman of the Brady Campaign has obtained a CCW and a Glock and is blogging about her experience. Her intent is to show how dangerously unregulated firearms are - apparently by purposely choosing to remain ignorant of even the basic concepts of firearm safety but while carrying her Glock everywhere.

Yewman, who led opposition to Starbuck's allowing perfectly law-abiding citizens to carry in their stores in accordance with state open carry laws takes her Glock into Starbucks - after she decides to figure out whether or not her Glock was loaded by stopping a policeman going through his daily duties and asking him to check it for her. Apparently unable to find actual gunowners who fit her stereotype, Yewman has decided to become the ignorant, unsafe gunowner she sees in her mind in order to show that more laws are necessary.

And yet, she makes a point. There are ignorant, unsafe gun owners out there carrying. I've seen some myself. A responsible person would become proficient at gun safety before carrying, but there are a lotta irresponsible people out there.

Being anti-gun and carrying a Glock to make some sort of twisted pointed is protected by 2A.

We "lobby" for Constitutional carry and against mandatory training, so whether or not we like her reason for carrying, if we try to stop her, we are the hypocrites.

I would have loved to have heard from the LEO who had to give her an impromptu lesson on gun safety.

Penny for your thoughts?

There are ignorant, unsafe people doing every activity under the sun. Does that mean the rest of us must be treated as though we are ignorant and unsafe? Lowest common denominator determines the rules for everyone else?

The failures in that article are legion.

That really grinds my gears. I dont understand these anti-gun people. Its like they live in their own little world.

So her message is ...

... any idiot can get a gun and carry it. Look at me, I'm a complete fool and I have one?

Hard to argue with that point.

But an arrest for brandishing, including a cuffing and ride to the station and confiscation would not be amiss and would make me smile.

Better yet she needs to come to Chicago and let our local police help her understand safe gun handling techniques when she asks a Chicago cop to help check her Glock to see if it's loaded. Preferably on the 10 o'clock news.

This is just unfortunately the mindset of too many Americans. No personal responsibility. When I got my drivers license (a long time ago) I had to make 4 right turns in a block around the building. This was the "test". Thing is my dad made sure I knew how to drive. She expects the government to do everything for her, including make her responsible. It is absurd

I've never lobbied against mandatory training for a CCW and I never will. I think its essential, especially in the event that you become involved in a self defense shooting. If somebody can't tell a trigger from a trailer hitch, they are going to get crucified by a lawyer in a wrongful death hearing.

After I took my first TX CCW class, my feelings on the matter were strongly reinforced by the half blind old lady that said she would just shoot at where the noise was coming from if she heard something in her house.

I hope she has a quiet cat.

How does a CWP instructor let her pass if she doesn't even know how to check if her gun is loaded?

To me, that's not good.

Dont get me wrong. I'm for Constitutional carry but if you're going to off a class and pass someone.... they better know how to check to see if their own gun is loaded.

And that, IMO, doesn't look good for us.

So she's trying to make the point that on one should be allowed to drive cars because she was able to get a license and is now driving recklessly?

What's next, she'd going to start DUIing in some neo-Prohibitionist crusade?

Huh, she wrote a book that's available used for $0.03 (http://www.amazon.com/Beyond-Bullet...8&qid=1371442421&sr=1-1&keywords=heidi+yewman). I'll have to pick that up sometime and see if she's anywhere near as good a writer as Josh Sugermann or Tom Diaz.

Wait, now I'm really confused. She never said in her article that she bought ammo and loaded the Glock. She said she took it as is from the store to a cop who verified it was clear. I doubt the store put ammo in the mag.

On a sidenote, you'll notice in the comments at the bottom that people didn't even read her blog.
But that’s the thing: not everyone is like you, apparently. People are different: some are peaceful and nice, some are angry and want to do harm. Carrying a gun makes it very easy to do harm and since no background check whatsoever on her is required and she can take it to starbucks where lots of people are, who knows what she’ll do.

I filled out a form, had my fingerprints taken for a background check and paid $56.50.

and she bought the Glock from a 01 FFL, which means a 2nd check.

If I read the article correctly she did not take (or was required to) a class. Much like my state (MS)

Yup, you go that right.

Some people's children.

I can put on a parachute and jump out of a perfectly good plane without instruction. Not a good idea but I can.

I put her in the same category.

The comments on that..."article" are worse than the piece itself. Apparently there are enough people in this country who do not know that the FBI publishes and analyzes crime FOR YOU. And even if you want the raw numbers, they have those too. All these grossly factually wrong people who think they know what they are talking about is disturbing yet comical. What makes it worse is their enough of them to shift politics when they vote. Oh and she is a hypocrite. Didn't Mark Kelly, husband of Gabrielle Giffords, try to pull this same stunt of "This is how easy it is therefore dangerous" publicity stunt?

I really wouldn't be at all surprised to learn she made this whole story up - that she never bought that gun; she never got a carry permit; that she never tracked down some officer who had conducted a traffic stop to help her figure out her gun wasn't loaded.

And if she did shoot her son with the gun, of course, it would be the gun's fault and everyone who is not anti-guns faults, and not the loose nut operating the trigger.

As soon as I saw the thread title, I knew it was purely to make an anti-gun point, not personal protection.

This sounds like the crap Mark Kelly said when paid for an AR. Thank God that transaction was cancelled! I think his excuse for buying it, to show how easy it is to buy a semi auto rifle, was an excuse for the purchase when people discovered he was buying it.
This woman is just incredibly stupid if she is carrying and can't even tell if it's loaded:eek:
Both are nothing but hypocrites
