I have been thinking about broomhandles again and I see that that reasonably nice looking refinishes are available in my area again. The problem is they are 30 Mauser. As a reloader I want to get the brass back and especially considering the costs of 30 mauser brass.

So, if you own a Broomhandle Mauser, what is the ejection pattern like? I have only shot a Chinese clone and the ejection was straight up and very erratic.

There is a decent looking (I'm picky!) full size later broom rebuild/rebarrel to 9mm with repro stock in local gunshop for $700, I have one and it shoots very well . The ejection is straight up pretty much ! I'd stick to 9mm as it's much easier and really just as effective ect. as the increasingly harder to get surplus 7.63 round. Also most 7.63 Broom barrels are shot out. Call 831-7226945 for info on the 9mm broom.

Grit your teeth and get the original calibre.
A co-worker had one rebored to 9mm P and it was not reliable in function, apparently due to the shorter OAL.

I must agree with Mr. Watson....if I had the choice, I'd go with the 30 Mauser. The mags are made for the longer round and the 9mm is wayyy short in there.

I normally shoot my 9 with 147grn lead loaded out as long as I can and still allow the bolt to close. That works pretty well and feeding is OK.

And, ejection IS straight up...give or take. Losing brass from the Broomie is never a problem.

Well the broomhandle does come in a 9mmx19mm version. You can tell it by the big red nine on the handgrip. These are awesome weapons so I would try to buy as orginal as possible. Remember this weapon has only one screw in it and that screw holds the grips on.

Mine has never acted up with any 9mm ammo I fed it. Mine is a converted Bolo, when Oyster Bay did it I had all springs ect. replaced ect. ect. The one that is for sale for $700 is not as highly finished as mine, but has the same new 9mm Parabellum rebarrel and checks out OK. I bought a couple cases of Spanish 9x19 147 grain ammo (Santa Barbara 1992)for cheap and enjoyed shooting the broom now and again.

I always thought it would be neat to convert one to 9mm largo. The longer round might solve jamming problems.

I had one in 9mm and the short rounds occasionally fell forward in the magazine.

Mine was a converted chinese mauser.

And now you know why Mauser made the pistols in 9mm Mauser Export after World War One.
The cartridge never caught on and it was very similar to the Largo/Bergmann-Bayard cartridge but slightly less powerful.

So it sounds like it tends to eject straight up and go for the 30 mauser.

Well, I guess I will have to figure out how to catch upward ejected rounds with a different brass catcher design. Either that or learn to shoot one "gangsta" style. The reloader in me cannot stand the idea of losing that much brass with vertical ejection.

Thanks all!
