Bucket List Purchases

Around 35 years ago I made friends with a pawn broker that had a small shop and did all the gunshows within 100 miles and for 10 years or so he let me help him out. After a year or so, in return I got to shoot any used firearm he had and could buy anything he had at his cost as long as it was for me and I could trade or sell it back for its original cost … this arrangement allowed me a unique opportunity to handle, shoot and own a great number of firearms I would have never had the opportunity to enjoy otherwise. Also because of our arrangement I put together a decent collection I never would have been able to otherwise.

I’ve told myself several times in the last 20 years “I’m done, I have everything I want” but most can guess how that works out.

While I think I’ve already got, or had all my grail guns there’s still an occasional something pop up that I feel like I need … so far this year it’s been a Kimber (1911) Rapid Black Ice in 45acp, a fully engraved Kimber 357 revolver and before the year is over I suspect another one or two will present themselves.

Being retired, I also need to start thinning out the herd. I’ve already decided my machine guns and other NFA’s will be the last to go, along with the 4 that my wife has given me over the years as gifts.
It’s really not as easy as I thought it would be as most have some sort of story behind them … but I also don’t want to saddle my wife with the burden after I’m gone.

Not that I'm a negative kind of guy by any means, but right now my bucket is only about half full. While I feel like I've got all the revolvers and autoloaders I need, there's some long guns out there I've always favored but could never find the right specimen, or, if I did, couldn't buy it at that moment. I just retired, so I'm gonna have some fun for the next few years. (As long as the secret Swiss bank account lasts, anyway)
Almost all of my guns are worth 30-50 percent more than i paid for them
This statement caught my eye... Upon further review, probably all my guns are worth 50 to 100 percent -- or more -- than I paid for them. To heck with downsizing, I'll just let my kids have fun auctioning off whatever they don't want for themselves (or their husbands or my grandkids). They'll all be able to afford a few months in Europe or the South Pacific once they get 'em sold off.
That has got to be one of, if not THE, best collections of Automags in the world.
Word.

I have my eye on a Savage model 12 Varmint 243 heavy barrel, but I’m unwilling to pay the $1,200 the shop wants for it. 4F78F41F-82FF-4661-9D3B-C122F04E82B5.jpeg

The Winchester 52s on our high school rifle team consistently outshot my Remington 513T. No way it was the riflemen, had to be the rifles!! So I have always lusted for a 52. I could buy one, I could punch paper over a rest. Arthritis makes it impossible to shoot 4-position, or 3- position, or prone, or offhand. So I could look at it. It would just remind me I’m no longer in high school.

Nah.

There's something to be said for "just looking at them."

My Bucketlist includes all the 80’s and early 90’s guns. Tec9, Mac10, Ruger P’s, Colt Delta Elite, Calico, all the Bryco and .25 ACP pot metal guns, Hbar, and Phase Plasma rifle in the 30 watts range

My bucket list gun would be a LAR Grizzly in .45 Magnum. Always wanted one-never wanted to pay the price. Now, I probably would, but the price has likely tripled or quadrupled.
They are out there, but can be pricey. I picked this one up quite some time ago and managed to acquire the 357 and 45ACP conversion kits with extra mags for each. I'm still on the hunt for a 10mm conversion, and maybe a 357-45GWM if I find one at the right price.
