So was thinking about this, I'll come up with some ideas, see if can come up with your own. $2000 is not a low sum but to build a basic four or more gun collection with 500 rounds of ammo each as a starter supply of ammo. Taxes or shipping doesn't need to be considered just basic sale price. All guns and ammo have to be factory new,

list 1

S&W M&P Sport AR $530
https://www.rkguns.com/smith-wesson-m-p15-sport-ii.html

Beretta 92FS or Glock 17 or 19 $500

https://shoot-straight.com/product/beretta-92a1-j9a9f10/

https://www.rkguns.com/glock-17-g4-9mm-full-size-pistol-g17.html

Ruger Mark 4 .22 $330

https://www.gunbroker.com/item/826300863

Marlin 60 .22 $170
https://www.rkguns.com/marlin-60sn-22lr-rimfire-rifle-70650.html

.22 ammo 500 brick $40 for 2
9mm 500 rounds $90
.223 500 rounds $135

total is $1795.00 leaving $205 for a budget optic or more ammo
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
list 2
same but replace the AR with a Century AK (A used SKS would be better but)
Century AK American made VSKA $550
https://www.gunbroker.com/item/828766990

and replace the 9mm with a Rock Island or American tactical 1911 .45 $400
https://www.rkguns.com/rock-island-armory-gi-standard-fs-45-auto-full-size-pistol-51421.html

7.62x39 ammo $89 for 500 rounds
.45 ACP 500 rounds $122
https://ammoseek.com/ammo/45acp

along with the .22 rifle and pistol and ammo it comes to $1661.00 leaving $339.00 for accessories or more ammo
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
list 3

same as list 2 but replace the 1911 .45 with a Ruger GP100 and ammo
Ruger GP100 .357 $599
https://www.rkguns.com/ruger-gp100-357-magnum-38-special-double-action-revolver-1702.htm

500 rounds of .357 or .38 spcl $147.00

comes out to $ 1925.00 for a AK, .22 rifle and pistol and a Ruger .357 with 500 rounds ammo for each gun leaving $75

basic idea for a modest gun collection for range shooting with ammo to last for a few sessions as long as you don't blow through it too fast.

What? No shotgun? How are you going to shoot clays or hunt birds? :neener:

you can make a list that includes what you feel fits you, you can substitute one of the four guns for a shotgun instead of handgun or rifle. I just personally shoot more handgun and rifle than shotgun though I like shooting clays but just don't do it that much.

The issue for me would be the $2K budget as my preferred shotgun costs somewhat more than that just by itself. ;)
Is a problem when you are avid shotgun user, good clay guns get expensive.
However my friend who isn't rich uses a Franchi 12 gauge autoloader when we go clay shooting at Fishhawk range and he does rather well with it for not being a competition shooter which the price range for it can still manage into a four gun collection

I personally want one of these Remington 1100 competition shotguns
https://www.gunbroker.com/item/825028777

I tried my friends Franchi, another friends Beretta autoloader and another friends Beretta over and under and I liked the Remington 1100 the best.

I used to shoot at Fishhawk when I lived closer; nice folks. I can tell you their tournament targets (which is what I shoot) are a lot tougher then the day to day ones; but that is the same at Tampa, Polk and all of the rest. Try the next tournament, you can join NSCA for free for a year and get to try some challenging targets which will make you a better hunter.

Would like to I do need to shoot clays more often, we do it among friends not a real grade competition. Fishhawk is rather far from me though, a hour drive. One reason why I don't do it more . There are other closer ranges but after experiencing Fishhawk they just aren't the same.

Where I live now, the closest is 1.5 each way and the better clubs are 2.5 hours each way - if I want to shoot, then I make the drive.

understood, another thing is all my friends that I use to shoot clays with went separate ways, moved out of state and such, I don't mind shooting handgun or rifle alone, but just can't do a clay course alone...it is just too lonely.

The guns you list are all good ones for the parameters you’ve set. I, too would add a 12 ga pump shotgun to no other reason than they are versatile and can be used for so much.

Stay safe.

My list 2 leaves enough money to buy a budget shotgun also, but maybe not 500 rounds of ammo to go with it.

There are many guns that can be substituted within my list , a Ruger Blackhawk for example or a Marlin 30-30. The idea of the thread is to keep it new guns but of course going the used route leaves even more money.

As I made the list one thing struck out to me, while AK have gone up in price and AR have gone down, the 7.62x39 ammo can still be had for a lot cheaper than .223 unless you get steel case .223 also. Which while Century American made AK are questionable in long term reliability , a used SKS Chinese or Yugo in the $450 to $500 range makes a good option for shooting 7.62x39.

Sig 365 I paid $450. With a 12 round mag in addition to the two 10 round mags I'm at $500. It serves as a compact carry gun with 10 round mags. Will do the same thing as a bigger gun with the 12 round mags.

Ruger American Predator in 308. I paid $389 OTD for mine. Add a $200 Burris FF-II scope and an extra 5 round mag and I'm at $630
https://ruger.com/products/americanRiflePredator/specSheets/26974.html

Ruger 10/22 LVT. $300, add $200 for another scope for $500
https://ruger.com/products/1022Sporter/specSheets/1237.html

Walmart Remington 870, $279

That only leaves me $91 for ammo. I'll just have to come up short on ammo or go over budget, that is as cheap as I'll go on a gun battery.

You can ditch the Marlin 60 by getting a .22 conversion kit for the AR. That would probably allow for a cheap 12ga. shotgun, even if it had to be a break open single shot.

Also, there are always deals on police surplus Glock 19s, which will knock off quite a bit of money.

Has to be four, factory new guns? My list would be $1000 for a quality AR, $1500 for three Glock 19's. Then, sell two of the Glocks and spend the money on ammo. ;)

A fine choice! 20170101_132903.jpg
Hit that button on the bottom of the gunbroker page!

Throw in a good used pump or single shot 12 ga. A 12 ga is good for most everything in life. Home defense, Clay's, hunting, and wrecking your shoulder.( If you use a single w 3 in high brass)

for the sake of the thread yes factory new.

Since all you’re doing is range play I’d get a centerfire revolver, 9mm semi, .22lr pistol and rifle and buy ammo.
Range play but for other purposes also if needed, defense or hunting if you build a list to your needs.

I personally am thinking if it is a person on a budget. Maybe a young person starting in the working world, maybe a person with a family on a budget or a retiree on a fixed budget.

Modest gun collection for personal or family range time, also to be used for home protection or hunting.

If hunting is a needed choice Marlin or Savage offers lever or bolt guns with optics in the budget range as a example.

A collection like this can be made within a certain amount of time. Reliable firearms that will bring fun and protection.

While it's an interesting thought exercise, such a limitation isn't realistic. It would be foolish for someone who is limited to a specific amount of money to exclusively consider new firearms. Why would they?

Because the idea is to put together a list and options for what is available on the market new that fits into said budget. Yes some people might go to a pawn shop and buy a $80 Marlin 60 that has god knows how many rounds through it or buy a Brinks LEO trade in .40 s&w Shield for $250 and that is a option in reality but some people will shop around town Walmart, Dick's and gun shops ect. for new guns.

I personally include .22 on my lists for practice and fun, especially for a family wanting to do quality time with family and teach the kids.. But a list can be whatever suits you for new on the market guns that have reputation for certain quality.

Build a list of new guns, then maybe if someone chooses they can then decide on the list comparing to used guns.
