Bullets vs. Payphone, PICS!!
Have you ever wondered if a payphone would do you any good in a firefight? I havn't, but I came across this payphone and decided to shoot it. After the massacre I realised that it might actually provide a bit of cover, especially for the vital organs.
Here is an overall view to give you an idea of the sort of payphone were talking about here.
First I started with .223.
You can pretty much tell what part of the payphone this is. There is no exit wound for these shots.
This is the lower portion about 1/4 of a foot off the ground.
Here's the backside. 2 out of 3 made it through.
Here's a couple shots into the side. The bullet holes are highlighted by red arrows.
Here's the opposite side. There are no exit holes of any kind.
Next is the 12ga. slug. Heres a couple shots to the upper portion of the phone.
Here's the backside. One shot went right through, the other didn't even dent the back.
This is a shot to lower portion, about a foot from the ground.
This is the exit wound.
Finally the 9mm. A couple went right through, but most didn't even penetrate the first metal plate. Here's 2 shots, one that made it through, one that didn't.
In this photo you can see that nothing short of a 12ga. slug had enough power to penetrate the paypahone at the center of mass.
Realistically you would probably get hit in the legs, arms, and possibly even the head, but it would most likely stop any body shots. This is assuming that your center of mass is behind the center of the payphone.
I didn't record the types of ammution used, all I can say is that it was all cheap wal-mart bought stuff. All FMJ (besides the slugs of course) IIRC.
Conclusion: A payphone MIGHT just save your arse if your foe isn't using shotgun slugs. I imagine lots of criminals wouldn't think to shoot at the legs, but even if they did they would need a rifle round to hit you. The 9mm (seems to be popular among the baddies) was no match. I would imagine that the .45ACP would have little more penetration then the 9mm.
Take from this what you will, I thought some people might be interrested in this.
