I have a lockable drawer under the seat of my jeep.
Yeah. My 1980 cj7 has a lockable console, and that's sort of important when it doesnt have a top or doors in the summer.Do any modern cars not come with a security system of some kind?
Same here. I grew up in a major city and I was taught you never leave an unattended vehicle unlocked. Now I live in a place where people don’t lock their homes.I just leave it in the glove box. My truck is always locked. Always.
Ditto.I picked up a portable lock box from Academy. It has a steel cable the will wrap around a seat leg and it's airline approved. When I have to leave my vehicle for any length of time it's locked in the box. Cost about $15.00.

As for guns, if I'm gonna carry, i'm keeping it on my person no matter which facility I go to. If it's really a place where I cannot be seen with a gun, then a very small gun like a .32 is what I'd likely bring.
Since 1970, I've kept a pistol in my vehicle. They were hidden or stored in the map pocket or under the seat. After 49 years and no problems, why change?
Because no one would ever think of looking in those places.... lol
The key is driving a vehicle that looks so decrepit that the wouldbe thieves pass right on by....
Look up Console safes.Curious to know how folks handle leaving their CCW behind when visiting off limit facilities.
I'm asking because I always feel uneasy leaving a gun and ammunition unattended.
LOL X 10000!!!! All locks do is keep honest people honest, they don't stop criminals!!!I just leave it in the glove box. My truck is always locked. Always.
Up until recently = that is what I did.I don't know if this has been posted yet but I have been teach this for about 40 years now and using this method for about the same amount of time. I call it the 'poor mans security system'! I simply run a chain through the seat brackets under the drivers seat and put a paddle lock through the to end links and then I put the lock through the trigger guard BEHIND the trigger (most guns work with this method, only few do not) and lock it. This puts gun into the back seat area. Then simply cover/hide it with something. With 45+ years in LE I have never seen a criminal that breaks into cars that carry a hack saw or bolt cutters so even if they find it that can't remove it or fire it. It works VERY well and cost VERY little.

Speaking as a LEO with 45+ years experience, the point is the fact that you 'lock' your car is totally irrelevant to a criminal!!! I think anyone who leaves a gun in a motor vehicle UNSECURED (a locked car is NOT SECURE) should be charged with reckless endangerment! Here in Bama we had several officer shot and almost all of the guns used by the criminals were taken from motor vehicles, most of them LOCKED. CARRY YOUR GUN ON YOUR PERSON OR DON'T CARRY ONE. There are ways, that we have discussed here on this thread, which can be used if you MUST leave your gun in your vehicle for a SHORT period. That is the point! So, what’s your point?
